COLUMBUS — The National Junior College Athletic Association Division II Women’s Volleyball Tournament ended just over two weeks ago, and the Raiders are already preparing for next season.
For Central Community College, finishing sixth at nationals was a great achievement, the highest finish in the school’s history. But that doesn’t mean the Raiders are content. Since, CCC has signed three players — including two area athletes — to National Letters of Intent.

GRAND ISLAND - There is no better time to play your best volleyball than in the postseason.
Centura took that to heart against Shelton in the Class C-2, Subdistrict 10 tournament Monday at Grand Island Central Catholic. The Centurions came out strong and never really let up in surprising the Bulldogs 25-21, 25-16, 27-25 win to advance to the subdistrict finals.
"This has to be the best we have played all season," Centura coach Heather Ferralez said. "We all haven't really been on all season until tonight. It was good for us. When you are at this point of the season, records don't matter."
Wood River beats St. Paul in close matchClick to view story on Grand Island Independent.
WOOD RIVER - Morgan Heise carried the Wood River volleyball team when it needed her.
The senior had 12 of her match-high 20 kills in the third set to help the Eagles rally to take a 25-21, 21-25, 26-24 win over St. Paul in the Wood River Triangular.
The Wildcats missed a serve at 24-20, and that rotated Heise back to the front row, where she had four kills in the five Wood River points to take the match.
