Wayne State to hold Black & Gold scrimmage on SaturdayThe Wayne State College volleyball team will hold its annual Black and Gold scrimmage on Saturday morning at 10:00 a.m. at Rice Auditorium in Wayne. The event is free and open to the public. The Wildcats, ranked 9th in the AVCA Division II Coaches Top 25 preseason poll released on August 16, open the 2011 season next weekend, September 2-3, at the Concordia-St. Paul Tournament in St. Paul, Minnesota.
WSC will face three of the nation's top six teams at the event, battling #2 Central Missouri and #6 Southwest Minnesota State Friday followed by contests Saturday vs. Pittsburg State and #1 and four-time defending national champion Concordia-St. Paul.

WAYNE - Jennifer Hefner of Wayne State College has been awarded a postgraduate scholarship of $7,500 from the NCAA. The senior volleyball player from Archer, Nebraska (Central City HS) is one of just 29 female student-athletes from Division I, II and III to receive the prestigious honor. The scholarships are awarded to student-athletes who excel academically and athletically and who are at least in their final year of intercollegiate athletics competition.

Marlon Brink had dreamed of Nicole Brungardt competing on his track and field team from the moment the multisport athlete signed with Wayne State to play volleyball.
“I thought, ‘Man, what I wouldn’t give to have someone like that on our team,’ " Brink said.
He didn’t want to disrupt her year-round training for volleyball, though, so he never approached the 2008 World-Herald high school girl athlete of the year with the idea.

UNK fifth, Wayne State 9th in final Div. II pollWAYNE - Wayne State College finished the 2010 season ranked ninth in the final American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Division II Top 25 Coaches Poll released Tuesday afternoon. It’s the highest season-ending ranking ever for a Wildcat volleyball program that finished this season with a 26-4 overall record.
Wayne State was one of four teams from the NSIC to finish in the top 10 and one of seven teams from the Central Region ranked in the top 16 in the final poll. The Wildcats ended their season with a sixth straight trip to the NCAA Division II national tournament. WSC achieved the school’s first-ever #1 national ranking twice during the regular season and went 17-3 in the NSIC, good for a third place finish in league play.

No. 3 Wayne State VOLLEYBALL SUFFERS FIRST ROUND LOSS AT NCAA CENTRAL REGIONAL TO #13 METRO STATE – WILDCATS END SEASON 26-4WAYNE - #13 Metro State defeated #3 Wayne State College in four sets Thursday afternoon in the first round of the NCAA Division II Central Regional Volleyball Tournament in Marshall, Minnesota by scores of 28-26, 20-25, 25-18 and 25-16. WSC ends the season at 26-4 while the Roadrunners advance to the semi-finals on Friday at 5:00 p.m. against three-time defending national champion Concordia-St. Paul, who downed #16 Minnesota State earlier in the day 21-25, 25-19, 25-16, 25-11.
#3 Wayne State qualifies for sixth straight NCAA TournamentABOUT THE WILDCATS: Wayne State College is 26-3 entering this weekends NCAA Central Regional Tournament in Marshall, Minnesota.
The Wildcats have won 10 of their last 11 matches since October 15th, with the lone loss coming against Concordia St Paul in Wayne on October 29th.
Wayne State leads the NSIC in digs per set (18.40) while ranking 10th in NCAA Divison II. The Cats rank 2nd in the NSIC in opponent hitting percentage (.171) and are 4th in service aces (1.41) and assists (12.90).
