Maddie Haggerty will have an even bigger surprise when she returns to watch a Nebraska volleyball match this season, or plays in one in a few years at the Huskers' new home at the Devaney Sports Center.
The high school sophomore from the Chicago suburban of Glen Ellyn, Ill., told NU coach John Cook on Monday that she'd like to play for the Huskers beginning in 2014.
Metcalf, Larson named to U.S. Women's National Team preliminary roster for 2012 FIVB World Grand PrixColorado Springs, Colo. - USA Volleyball announced on Monday that former Huskers Jordan Larson and Nancy Metcalf were named to the U.S. Women's National Team Preliminary Roster for the 2012 FIVB World Grand Prix.
The U.S. Women's National Volleyball Team is ranked No. 1 in the world and will reduce the 25-player roster closer to the start of the event on June 8. The team, which has already qualified for the 2012 Olympic Games, will open competition against Germany in a Pool B match in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic.
Metcalf is a 2004 Olympian and a three-time AVCA First-Team All-American at Nebraska. Larson was a three-time All-American who led the Huskers to three NCAA Semifinals appearances.

LINCOLN — Coming to Nebraska from Sweden meant Cecilia Hall had a little harder transition to Division I volleyball than your average Husker recruit.
Upon arrival last July, Hall grappled with a language barrier, had to get acclimated to a faster playing tempo and wrapped her mind around the intensity of taking the floor in front of a packed house at the NU Coliseum.
Huskers finish spring season undefeatedAMES - The Nebraska volleyball team completed the 2012 spring season with an undefeated record after taking down the Iowa State Cyclones 3-1 (25-16, 22-25, 27-25, 25-16) at Hilton Coliseum in Ames, Iowa on Saturday.
Nebraska was led by Hannah Werth as she totaled a double-double on the afternoon with 17 kills and 11 digs, along with a .371 hitting percentage. Gina Mancuso followed close behind with 15 kills and a hitting percentage of .429. Lauren Cook tabbed a double-double of her own with 41 assists and 11 digs, as she helped the Huskers to a .276 hitting percentage for the match. Morgan Broekhuis made her presence known with 10 kills and five block assists, while Hayley Thramer recorded four blocks.
Nebraska out-blocked Iowa State 15.5-4, while holding the Cyclones to a .106 hitting percentage.
The Huskers' spring schedule included a 4-0 win over Hawaii on March 23, a 3-0 win over North Dakota State on April 7 and a 3-1 win against Wichita State on April 14.
NU tops Wichita StateLINCOLN - The Nebraska volleyball team remained undefeated in the spring schedule with a 3-1 win (15-4, 15-0, 11-15, 15-6) over Wichita State Saturday night at the NU Coliseum.
In a match decided by side-out scoring, the Huskers were led by Morgan Broekhuis, who had 13 kills on 37 attacks. Hannah Werth notched 12 kills and 22 digs on the night, while Lauren Cook tabbed 39 assists. Lara Dykstra had 20 digs and Hayley Thramer finished with seven blocks, as the Huskers notched 95 total digs. Nebraska out-blocked Wichita State 15.5-7.5 and hit .209 as a team.
The Huskers went up early in the first set, taking a 4-3 lead and going up 8-3 on a service ace by Werth. Eight straight points put NU ahead 12-3 with a block by Cecilia Hall. The Huskers went on to take the set 15-4, leading the match 1-0.

LINCOLN — Two weeks ago, inside a sweltering, raucous gym five time zones from home, Hayley Thramer took another step away from her volleyball adolescence.
Nebraska's junior middle blocker was one of the brightest stars in the Huskers' sweep of Hawaii in the spring exhibition opener in Oahu, recording eight kills with one error on 11 swings and adding nine blocks in front of an ear-splitting crowd crammed into War Memorial Gym.
Huskers take down North Dakota State in NorfolkNORFOLK - The Nebraska volleyball team remained undefeated in the spring season with a 3-0 sweep (25-16, 25-9, 25-22) of North Dakota State Saturday afternoon in front of a roaring, sold-out crowd at the Cox Activities Center in Norfolk, Neb.
Morgan Broekhuis led the Huskers on the afternoon with 12 kills, while Hayley Thramer impressed her hometown crowd with 10 kills on 14 attacks for a .643 hitting percentage. Lauren Cook notched 32 assists and 10 digs, while Hannah Werth led Nebraska defensive with 18 digs. The Huskers out-blocked the Bison 8-5 as a team and held NDSU to a .133 hitting percentage. Both Werth and Lara Dykstra recorded four service aces.
The Huskers opened the first set with a 3-1 lead behind back-to-back kills by Broekhuis. Thramer used two kills of her own to put NU up 10-5. The Bison made a run to make it 14-11, before Allison McNeal and Broekhuis each tabbed two kills to catapult the Huskers to a 16-11 lead. Nebraska did not look back, going up 22-13 behind a service ace by Cook. NU went on to take the first set 25-16, leading the match 1-0.
NU to face Wichita State on SaturdayLINCOLN - The Nebraska volleyball team would like to remind fans that the Huskers will face the Wichita State Shockers for their only home match of the spring season on Saturday, April 14 at 5 p.m., at the NU Coliseum. It will be the Huskers third match of the spring, as they are coming off a 3-0 win over North Dakota State at the Cox Activities center in Norfolk, Neb., last weekend.
Live stats for Saturday's match will be available on Huskers.com. Fans will be able to listen to the action live in Omaha at 93.3 FM The Wolf, select Husker Sports Network Affiliates as well as free on Huskers.com.
Tickets for the match are currently on sale at Huskers.com, by calling the NU Ticket Office at 800-8BIGRED or by visiting the Nebraska Athletic Ticket Office in person weekdays between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. Reserved tickets are $10 with GA tickets set at $8. All currently enrolled UNL students are eligible to receive one free ticket to the spring match, but must secure a ticket in advance either online at Huskers.com, by phone at 800-8BIGRED or in person at the Athletic Ticket Office located just west of Memorial Stadium, while supplies last.
