NebVolleyball/Jones Insurance Agency Inc. Oct. 3 Rankings Papillion-LaVista swept Class B's new top team Lincoln Pius X in in the finals of the Lincoln Northeast Tournament, while former Class B No. 1 Gretna was defeated for the first time this season. Earlier last week, Kearney Catholic was defeated by Grand Island Central Catholic, switching up the rankings in C1. D1 BDS lost to Class C2 Blue Hill, but remains atop in D1 as does Bertrand in D2 and Lutheran High Northeast in C2 in this week’s Oct. 3 NebVolleyball/Jones Insurance Agency, Inc. Rankings for each classification.

NebVolleyball Player Spotlight - Rachel CarraherNebVolleyball recently caught up with Spalding/Spalding Academy junior middle hitter Rachel Carraher and asked her about the upcoming season. Spalding/Spalding Academy is coming off a rebuilding year the girls are hoping to use that experience to have a better 2011 season.

Palmer defeats Spalding/Spalding Academy in three setsSPALDING — Palmer downed Spalding/Spalding Academy 26-24, 24-26, 25-16 and Elba 25-14, 25-13 at the Spalding/Spalding Academy Triangular.
Chloe Wichman (nine points), Shelbea Mamot (nine) and Sara Mamot (seven) combined for 25 service points to lead the Tigers over Spalding/Spalding Academy. Wichmann added 18 digs and 11 kills, while Mamot added 25 digs. Shayla Wichmann had nine kills and Mamot had 32 assists and 16 digs.
Maggie Ramold was the top scorer for the Tigers against Elba as she accounted for 10 points. Sidney Roepker and Julie Happold each added six points, while Chloe Wichmann (six) and Shayla Wichmann (four) combined for 10 kills.
Leigh splits matches with Dodge, Spalding/Spalding AcademyLEIGH — The Leigh volleyball team split a pair of matches at its home triangular Tuesday, defeating Spalding/Spalding Academy 25-22, 20-25, 25-23 before losing 25-23, 14-25, 25-12 to Class D-2, No. 9 Dodge.
Adrian Bruhn had a solid match, with 27 kills. Brooke Jindra and Jasmine Osten each added 10. Brooke Wiese had 54 set assists to go with four ace serves and 22 digs, while Jindra had nine blocks. Morgan Bruhn had 25 digs to lead the team.
Leigh moves on to host its home invite Saturday.

Greeley-Wolbach wins Spalding tournament, improves to 6-0 on seasonSPALDING — Greeley-Wolbach improved to 6-0 on the season as the Titans won the Spalding/Spalding Academy Invitational.
Greeley-Wolbach opened with a 25-22, 25-21 win over Spalding/SA. Schuyler Erickson had six kills while Emily Majerus added five kills and two ace serves.
The Titans then downed Humphrey St. Francis 25-23, 25-14 in the championship match. Majerus had three ace serves while Shelby Rother and Erickson each had five kills.
