Players selected for West All-Star Game at Scottsbluff on June 2SCOTTSBLUFF — Players have been selected for the East and West teams for the 28th-annual West Nebraska All-Star Volleyball Game. The 26 members of the volleyball teams were nominated by their respective high school coach and selected by the all-star coaches.

Kappas reaches 800 wins, GI's Root going for 600th tonight against North PlatteMillard South's Joanne Kappas became the third coach in Nebraska High School history to reach 800 victories as Millard South went 2-1 on Monday in the Metro Conference Tournament.

MAYWOOD - The Hitchcock County High School volleyball team was playing in a hole most of the night Tuesday, Oct. 18, in the Republican Plains Activities Conference (RPAC) Tournament championship match.
The Falcons dug too many deep holes that they could not dig back out from, as Bertrand beat Hitchcock County for the RPAC Tournament title. Bertrand defeated the Falcons 22-25, 25-22, 25-23, 25-16 in the championship match at the Maywood High School gym.

Oct. 17 RankingsIt’s conference tournament time across the state with quite a few already having been completed last week, many more this week and the final ones next week. Conference Tournaments will affect the rankings in all division as many of the top teams likely will face each other. While coaches invariably downplay their number of career victories, only the most naive would think they have little to do with that success.
That topic is being addressed because three longtime coaches recently achieved milestones. Jake Moore of Lincoln Pius X picked up victory No. 600, Dennis Troester of Southwest No. 700 and John Petersen of Columbus Scotus No. 800.

Oct. 3 Rankings Papillion-LaVista swept Class B's new top team Lincoln Pius X in in the finals of the Lincoln Northeast Tournament, while former Class B No. 1 Gretna was defeated for the first time this season. Earlier last week, Kearney Catholic was defeated by Grand Island Central Catholic, switching up the rankings in C1. D1 BDS lost to Class C2 Blue Hill, but remains atop in D1 as does Bertrand in D2 and Lutheran High Northeast in C2 in this week’s Oct. 3 NebVolleyball/Jones Insurance Agency, Inc. Rankings for each classification.

After the week that was, it was probably a little amazing that the McCook High School volleyball team showed up to play at the McCook Invitational Saturday, Sept. 17.
The Bison suffered through several injuries in the week leading up to the annual home tournament. But McCook ended the tournament in fourth place and was competitive in two losses after losing arguably four of the top varsity players on the roster.
