HASTINGS – The Nebraska West 17-1 team, which is made up primarily of Ogallala High School players, captured the 18 Open title at the Hastings Spring Spike that was held on March 6 at Hastings High School.

Nebraska West won five of six sets in pool play, sweeping Nebraska X 181 and Outer Limits 16 and splitting with Outer Limits 17. Then in the tournament, Nebraska West first won a three-set match over Nebraska X 181 before defeating Outer Limits 16 in three sets in the finals.

HASTINGS - The Nebraska Diamonds 18s went 4-0-1 to claim first place at the Bronco Showdown at Hastings College on Feb. 6.

The Diamonds, which include Kaelynn Drake, Brooke Henry, Siera Rohde, Taylor Rohde, Shelbea Spilinek, Shayla Trotter, Alivia Wardyn and Katelyn Watts, beat South Central 18 Black 25-17, 25-21, Queen City Jrs 171 25-17, 25-22, Adams County 17s 25-15, 25-12, Hastings Tigers 17s and split with South Central Red 25-22 and 17-25.

GRAND ISLAND - The Kearney Volleyball Club Crush 141 fought back from a big deficit to win the 14 Gold Division at the January Jam at Grand Island Northwest on Sunday afternoon.

The Crush (5-0), who are made up primarily of Kearney Catholic eighh-graders, dropped the opening set the the GI Vikes 14-1, who are Grand Island Northwest eight-graders, by a score of 25-21 and were down 21-19 in the second set before rallying to win 25-23. Then the Crush won a tightly-contested third set 15-11 to earn the victory.
