Maresh named Peru State Female Athlete of MonthPERU - Peru State College (PSC) Athletic Director Steve Schneider has announced that volleyball player Emily Maresh (Central City) and Garret Campbell (Santee, Calif.) have been selected as the Bobcat Athletes of the Month for September. This is a new recognition that the Bobcat athletic department is starting in conjunction with its new website that will be launched soon.
Maresh, a junior volleyball player, was honored as she has had an outstanding first month of action as the Bobcats’ libero. Recently, Maresh was the first volleyball player to earn Heart of America Athletic Conference (HAAC) honors as she was named the HAAC Libero of the Week on Sept. 26. Maresh earned this recognition for the previous week’s efforts where she was named to the St. Ambrose All-Tournament Team.
Presently, Maresh leads the Bobcats in both service aces per set (0.3) and digs per set (4.5). Within the HAAC, Maresh is third in digs per set (4.5), fifth in total digs (277), tied for 11th in total service aces (19), and tied for 13th in service aces per set (0.3).

PERU – Emily Maresh will go down in the Peru State College (PSC) volleyball record books, as she became the first Bobcat volleyball player to earn Heart of America Athletic Conference (HAAC) honors. On Monday, Sept. 26, Maresh, a junior from Central City, was named as the HAAC Libero of the Week.
Maresh shared the weekly honors with Evangel University middle blocker Kaley Lyons and MidAmerica Nazarene University setter who earned HAAC hitter and setter honors for their previous week’s outstanding performances.
During the Bobcats’ week that saw PSC play five different games, Maresh tallied outstanding numbers. For the week, Maresh averaged 4.85 digs per set and turned in a .952 reception percentage as she had the team’s most serve receives. She had back-to-back 20-plus dig matches as she had 24 digs in a five-set loss to York College and then had 26 digs in a 3-1 win over Roosevelt (Ill.) University in the St. Ambrose Tournament. In addition, in the match against Roosevelt, Maresh led the team with three service aces.
Peru State drops third HAAC contestThe Peru State College (PSC) Bobcat volleyball team dropped their third straight Heart of America Athletic Conference (HAAC) game on Saturday as they fell to the host Avila University (AU) Eagles. The Eagles took the game in five sets 25-23, 22-25, 25-20, 14-25, 15-13. With the win, the Eagles move to 8-8 overall and 1-1 in the HAAC. Peru State fell to 2-8 overall and 0-3 in the HAAC.
Having played the last few games without a couple of starters, the Bobcats was faced with the same challenge against the Eagles. With one starter still out, another starter had an academic commitment forcing the ‘Cats to go with a slightly different line-up than had been used all season. However, Peru State had opportunities to win and know they are on the verge of capturing their first HAAC win.
Two Bobcats finished in double figures with kills. Maddy Lister (North Platte) finished with 17 kills to lead the team while Tara Carstens (Lincoln) added 11 kills. Carstens also led the team with four solo blocks and added three block assists, two digs, and one assist.
Peru State Bobcat volleyball drops second HAAC game (Peru, Neb.) – The Peru State College (PSC) Bobcat volleyball team is still looking for their first win in the Heart of America Athletic Conference (HAAC) after dropping their contest with the visiting MidAmerica Nazarene University (MNU) Pioneers. MNU took the game in four by winning 25-17, 25-20, 18-25, 25-19. It was the Pioneers’ first win in the HAAC as they improved to 1-0 and 8-3 overall. The Bobcats fall to 2-7 (0-2 HAAC).
It was a close game throughout with the largest lead by either team being the result of the first set. At several different points in the final three sets, both teams had leads only to see the other team fight their way back to knot the score.
Maddy Lister (North Platte) led the Bobcats with 15 kills, one dig, and one assist. Carly Morehead (Fairbury) added nine kills, five digs, three sets, and one solo block. Tara Carstens (Lincoln) provided eight kills, one dig, one solo block, and one assist. Carstens’ hitting percentage was the highest on the team for the night as she hit .375. Carrie Lierz (Holton, Kan.) added five kills, three digs, and two block assists.
Courtney Jurek (Bellevue) led the setters with 15 assists, nine digs, and two service aces. Amanda Gilreath (Omaha) added eight assists and six digs.
Peru State finishes 2-2 in FloridaPERU – While a trip to the beach was included, the Peru State College (PSC) Bobcat volleyball team won two matches at the Embry-Riddle Tournament in Daytona Beach, Fla. On Friday, the Bobcats lost to University of Northwestern Ohio (UNOH), but came back later in the day to defeat Oklahoma City University and win their first contest of the season. On Saturday, the ‘Cats topped Northwood (Fla.) College (NC) before falling to Daemen (N.Y.) College (DC). Following the tourney, PSC’s record for the season is now 2-3.

Concordia rallies for five-set victory over Peru StateConcordia University rallied for a 3-2 volleyball win over Peru State on Tuesday evening. The Bulldogs struggled in sets one and three but managed to escape with the win to improve to 2-3 on the year. Scores of the match were 15-25, 25-19, 12-25, 25-21 and 15-12.
The Bulldogs used a balanced offensive attack to pick up the victory. Marlee Denton ( Fremont , Neb. ), Angela Bruhn ( Creston , Neb. ) and Ashlea Vaudt ( Kalispell , Mont. ) all had nine kills to lead the way. Mariah Schamp ( Arvada , Colo. ) added eight kills and four blocks, while Amanda Abbott ( Temecula , Calif. ) and Amanda Kisker ( Lincoln , Neb. ) added four kills apiece.

All of this and more looks to make the Peru State College (PSC) Bobcat volleyball 2011 season something for Coach Lexie Baack and her team to be excited about.
With 18 players, the largest volleyball squad size in recent years, the Bobcats will work to use their returning players experience and couple that with some new talent, which should make the team competitive as they enter their first year in the Heart of America Athletic Conference (HAAC). Previously, the Bobcats had played in the Midlands Collegiate Athletic Conference (MCAC); however, the entire athletic program is now a member of the tradition-rich and NAIA successful HAAC.
Peru State volleyball to hold scrimmage Aug. 27The Peru State College Bobcat football and volleyball team will both hold scrimmages on Saturday, Aug. 27.
Football head coach Terry Clark’s Bobcats will have a controlled intra-squad scrimmage beginning at 9:00 a.m. in the historic Oak Bowl. Over 110 players completed their two-a-days last Thursday. The Bobcats will open the following Saturday, Sept. 3, when they travel to Baldwin City, Kan., to take on Heart of America Athletic Conference (HAAC) foe Baker University. The Wildcats are tied for 23rd in the NAIA pre-season poll.
Saturday evening at 7:00 p.m., the Bobcat volleyball team will have their annual fall alumni scrimmage. Bobcat volleyball head coach Lexie Baack’s team concluded their three-a-day workouts last week and is looking to a competitive season as they begin their first year in the HAAC conference. The ‘Cats’ first game will be the following Tuesday, Aug. 30, when they host a non-conference opponent, the Concordia University Bulldogs. The match is scheduled to begin at 7:00 p.m.
Peru State College to take on alumni April 16 at 10 a,.m.(Peru, Neb.) – The Peru State College Bobcat volleyball team will be having a scrimmage on Saturday, April 16.
Head volleyball coach Lexie Baack and her ‘Cats will be playing approximately 15 Bobcat alums beginning at 10 a.m. in the Al Wheeler Activity Center. Because of the interest from the alumni, there will be two courts going at the same time. Coach Baack said, “Our team always looks forward to playing the alumni, some of whom just finished their eligibility. The play is usually quite competitive.”

PERU - The Peru State College (PSC) Bobcat women’s volleyball team posted a 19-10 overall record and a 12-4 Midlands Collegiate Athletics Conference (MCAC) record for the 2010 season. The Al Wheeler Activity Center saw some great volleyball this season. The Bobcats only lost three times on their home court, with the first loss coming well over half-way through the season.
The team was nationally ranked among NAIA competition in three separate categories at the end of the season. The ‘Cats finished 12th in Service Aces per Game (2.370), 15th in Blocks per Game (2.5), and 24th in Total Service Aces (244).
