Lincoln Northeast 3, Fremont 0: Toni Tupper had a match-high 14 kills for Northeast. Natalie Bohac added 13 kills for the Rockets.

Lincoln Pius X 3, Omaha Mercy 0: Cassie Effken and Scarlett Howerter each had 10 kills and Allison Zastrow had 27 assists for Pius X.

After a slow start against Omaha Mercy in the District B-3 volleyball final Thursday night at Bellevue West, Omaha Gross showed it’s ready to defend its Class B state title.

The Cougars recovered to dominate Mercy 25-19, 25-17, 25-8.

Experience has not been a problem for the Ansley volleyball team this season.

The Warriors have everybody back from their state tournament team that finished 25-4 last season.

OMAHA - Omaha Mercy (16-13) was one match away last season from its first state tournament appearance since 1995.

Emporia State senior Brianne Boner thought her playing days at ESU were done when the volleyball team lost in the semifinals of the South Central Regional Tournament.

However, Boner’s playing days will continue as she has joined the women’s basketball team after two season-ending knee injuries to seniors Brittney Miller and Negesti Taylor.
