Former Bellevue West player to take over coaching duties for Kappas at Omaha BryanOMAHA - When Elisa Booth approached her former high school coach Joanne Kappas about assisting with volleyball at Omaha Bryan, she had no idea of what was going to come out of the meeting.
What Booth, a former player at Bellevue West, discovered was that Kappas had turned in her resignation and accepted the head coaching position at Millard South and that the Omaha Bryan head coaching position was open.
“I was at Bryan interviewing for the math position when I ran into Coach Kappas,” said Booth, who has been coaching for the past eight years at Beatrice, Fremont and the Cheyenne River Sioux Reservation in South Dakota. “I had not heard that she was leaving, so I had planned on asking her if I could help out. It was not until later that she said she would be leaving. I immediately put in for the position and the rest is history. She has been a tremendous help setting things in motion and showing me the ropes before starting her new position.”
Former Bellevue West assistant coach Bob Stanley hired as new head coachBELLEVUE – Bob Stanley was recently hired to be the new head volleyball coach at Bellevue West High School.
Stanley replaces Laurel Derry, who resigned her volleyball coaching position earlier this year, but will remain with the Bellevue Schools as a counselor.
Stanley may be a familiar name with some Bellevue West volleyball fans as he was an assistant for Joanne Kappas from 1993-2003, except in 1996 when he was sent to South Korea by the Air Force.
Following the 2003 season, Stanley was assigned another Air Force duty in Hawaii, which turned out to be a 5 ½ year absence.
