Schimmer, Wollak sign with UNO
by Bonnie Ryan/UNO Sports Information

OMAHA, Neb. – Michaela Schimmer and Kelley Wollak have signed National Letters of Intent to join the UNO volleyball program in 2012, Head Coach Rose Shires announced Thursday.

Michaela Schimmer
Schimmer is a 6-0 setter and rightside hitter from Northwest High School in Grand Island, Neb. A four-year letterwinner in volleyball for Coach Diane Ronzee, she helped the Vikings to four straight state runner-up finishes from 2008 to 2011, as well as district championships and conference titles all four years. In Schimmer's senior season, Northwest compiled a record of 34-5, and she went on to earn all-state accolades from both the Omaha World-Herald and the Lincoln Journal Star for the third consecutive year.

“Michaela is an outstanding athlete who has the ability to immediately impact the team as both a setter and a rightside hitter,” Shires said. “She is an exceptional setter who understands how to get her team to win.”

Iowa State's Tenisha Matlock makes a dig at the UNK Spring Volleyball Tournament while fellow Nebraskans Kelsey Petersen (8), Jamie Straube (14), Caitlin Mahoney (7) and Carley Jenson (1) look on.

When the NCAA Div. I Volleyball Tournament gets underway on Thursday and Friday across the country, the state of Nebraska will be well represented on the rosters of the teams that made it.

The home-state University of Nebraska-Lincoln volleyball team boasts eight Nebraska natives on its roster, but there are also at least 14 other native Nebraskans on other team's rosters that made the tournament.

Of these 22 Division I players, they hail for 20 different Nebraska high schools.
