HASTINGS - Michaela Mestl and Bailey Sokolowski had 12 kills apiece to lead No. 3 Kearney Catholic to a 25-19, 25-9, 25-16 win against unranked Norfolk Catholic on Thursday in the first round of the
Class C-1 state volleyball tournament at Hastings College.
Ironically, many of the 6-foot-1 Sokolowski's kills came on tips, and the 5-6 Mestl's were mostly from powerful swings. But Stars coach Kris Conner wasn't surprised.
NebVolleyball/Jones Insurance Agency Inc. Oct. 10 Rankings Papillion-LaVista South was pushed to the brink of its first loss against St. James Academy in Lenexa, Kan. but survived. Columbus Scotus in C1 also was pushed but remained unbeaten. Lutheran High Northeast in C2 wasn't so lucky as Guardina Angels took down C2's last unbeaten. OMAHA, Neb. – Second-year College of Saint Mary volleyball coach Samantha Hammond has announced her first full recruiting class with the addition of seven high school seniors expected to join the Flames this fall.
The Class of 2011 graduates includes Brittney Lester (Tecumseh, Neb.) from Johnson County High School, Jessica Kuehner (Omaha, Neb.) from Millard West High School, Joy Leick (Omaha, Neb.) from Omaha Marian High School, Mariah Voyles (Farragut, Iowa) from Farragut High School, Lacy Prusa (Norfolk, Neb.) from Norfolk Catholic High School, Brianna Sumner (Fort Collins, Colo.) from Rocky Mountain High School, and Danyel Borgmann (Seward, Neb.) from Seward High School.

Mount Marty College head volleyball coach Candice Climer announced Wednesday that two Nebraska athletes, Elisa Robinson of Wayne, Neb., and Kristen Boyle of Norfolk, Neb., will attend the school and play volleyball for the Lancers.
Robinson will graduate from Wayne High School in May where she is an honor roll member, Kiwanis Honor Student, Academic All-State Letter Award recipient, and National Honor Society member. She was also All-Conference for volleyball two years and a state track qualifier one year.
