COLUMBUS — The Discoverers came ready to play and took care of business.

Thursday at a home triangular against Lincoln High and rival Norfolk, the Columbus High volleyball team swept its competition, capping the night with a highly-competitive 25-22, 28-26 win over the Panthers at the CHS gym.

NORFOLK - Norfolk finished 13-22 last season and lost in the first round of districts to Grand Island.

OMAHA — Grand Island Senior High made a successful road trip as the Islanders downed host Millard West 25-22, 26-24 and Norfolk 25-17, 25-15 to claim the Millard West triangular.

Allison Arnold led the Islanders (13-6) with six kills and three ace blocks in the Millard West match. Jenna Helberg and Sam Harvey added four kills, while Sammie Miller led in digs with 10, Frankie Miller in ace serves with three and Ali Higgins in assists with 16.

Grand Island finished its night with the straight set win over the Panthers. Sam Harvey (9), Jenna Helberg (5) and Alison Arnold (5) combined for 19 kills in the match.

After playing 16 road matches, the Norfolk High volleyball team finally played at home.

The Panthers lost to Lincoln North Star 25-12, 25-14, 13-25, 25-13 on Tuesday night.

Talia Villalpando had eight kills for Norfolk (7-10). Teammate Katelyn Wells added three blocks. Brieann Colfack handed out 14 set assists.

NORFOLK – The two most valuable players at the 12th annual Northeast Nebraska All-Star Classic traveled different paths - literally and figuratively - to earn the accolades Friday night (June 19).

Ewing's Hayley Thramer arrived at Northeast Community College just hours prior to the match that featured the top players from Northeast and North Central Nebraska.

Brandy Koll led North Star with 16 kills and Aly Wurster had 22 set assists.
