Hampton hangs on to defeat Meridian in five sets at D2-2 subdistrictsClick to view story on York News-Times.
SEWARD — Hampton escaped with a five-set victory over Meridian to keep their season alive on Monday night at Seward High School as subdistrict play began around the state.
The Hawks 25-13, 25-18, 19-25, 23-25, 15-9 win over the Mustangs puts them in the D2-2 Final at 7 p.m. tonight in Seward.

WACO — The Nebraska Lutheran volleyball team will be looking to fill several spots on their roster this season.
“This is the most inexperienced team I have coached to date,” Coach Matt Willems said. “We lost four very good seniors from last year’s team and the majority of our offense. This is most likely going to be a rebuilding year for us, but we want to remain patient and look for small improvements throughout the year.”
Shelby/Rising City sweeps Nebraska LutheranSHELBY — The Shelby volleyball team made quick work of Nebraska Lutheran, winning 25-18, 25-11, 25-18 Thursday.
Telegram Super Senior Lindsay Coffin had eight ace serves and 18 digs, while the Huskies presented a balanced offensive attack, led by Jessica Nekl with 10 kills.
Maddie Scow and Makanna Davis each had seven, while Kiley Samek had 16 assists and Makenzi Kuhnel added 11.
Osceola defeats Nebraska LutheranWACO — Osceola defeated Nebraska Lutheran 25-21, 25-23, 25-17 in straight sets.
Alex Micek led the Bulldogs (13-1) with 11 kills, six blocks and four service points. Brandi Jahansen added nine kills and six points, while Katie Wilgocki had 12 service points and six kills. Michelle Wilgocki dished out 31 assists.

WACO — The Lady Knights got a battle from Dorchester in the first set of Friday’s volleyball match in Waco, but after that it was pretty much cruise control for Nebraska Lutheran.
Lutheran Coach Matt Willems and his Knights won in a sweep, 25-22, 25-16, 25-14.
Exeter-Milligan wins Nebraska Lutheran InviteWACO – The Exeter-Milligan Timberwolves improved their season record to 15-1 on Saturday as they went 3-0 at the Nebraska Lutheran Invite.
The No. 3 team in Class D-1 according to the Omaha World-Herald defeated Omaha St. Peter Claver 25-3, 25-11, took down the hosts 25-18, 25-12 and then capped it off with a win over the Shelby/Rising City Huskies 25-15, 25-21.
Against Omaha SPC, the Timberwolves were led by Jackie Luzum with eight kills and seven aces. Megan Zwicki added six kills and Erica Yound had five ace serves.
Nebraska Christian defeats Nebraska Lutheran in four setsWACO — Anna Faeh had nine kills as Nebraska Christian downed Nebraska Lutheran 25-13, 25-21, 10-25, 27-25.
Katie Griess, Alycea Unruh and Hannah Rogers had seven kills each for the Eagles (2-1). Rogers also had nine ace serves while Caylyn Ostrand had four aces.
Unruh led the way defensively with 17 digs.
Class D1 - Notes for week of Sept. 20-26Ratings Comments: There were again and I already know there will be changes next week. Elkhorn Valley and Humphrey St. Francis fell out, as did Nebraska Lutheran, making room for Shelby, Osceola and West Boyd. Hay Springs advances after remaining unbeaten.

Nebraska Lutheran defeats Nebraska ChristianCENTRAL CITY — Nebraska Lutheran (2-1) downed host Nebraska Christian 25-16, 25-19, 23-25, 25-12.
Jen Smith led the Eagles (1-2) with 14 kills. Teammate Alycea Unruh added 12 digs, Anna Faeh had 10 assists and Katie Griess recorded seven kills, three ace blocks and 10 digs.
