Prior to this season, an Omaha Public Schools team had never won a match at the state volleyball tournament.

Omaha Burke outside hitter Nicole Walker helped change that, leading the Class A runner-up Bulldogs to a 32-7 record and two tourney wins. That performance capped her senior year at Burke and landed her a spot on this year's All-Metro Conference squad.

Nebraska natives help several teams make NCAA Volleyball Tournament

When the NCAA Div. I Volleyball Tournament gets underway on Thursday and Friday across the country, the state of Nebraska will be well represented on the rosters of the teams that made it.

The home-state University of Nebraska-Lincoln volleyball team boasts eight Nebraska natives on its roster, but there are also at least 14 other native Nebraskans on other team's rosters that made the tournament.

Of these 22 Division I players, they hail for 20 different Nebraska high schools.

LAWRENCE, Kan. - They’re both outside hitters. They’re both from Nebraska. They’re both freshmen. And they’re both starters on the Kansas volleyball team.

Sara McClinton and Chelsea Albers may each be in their first season with the Jayhawks, but coach Ray Bechard is counting on both of them to contribute, and contribute early. McClinton started all three of the team’s victories in the season-opening Georgia Bulldog Invitational over the weekend, and Albers started both of the Saturday sweeps.

Strong field planned for Bellevue Invitational

The annual Bellevue Invitational Volleyball Tournament will be held Sept. 2 and 3 at Bellevue West High School. Pool Play will take place on Friday, Sept. 2nd, beginning at 4:00. All pool play will be at Bellevue West High School. The top eight teams will play in the championship bracket in the South gym at Bellevue West beginning at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 3rd and the bottom eight teams will play in a consolation bracket tournament in the North gym at Bellevue West, beginning at 9:00 a.m.

Michelle Sicner and Emily Wilson sat on the bench during the fourth set with mixed feelings.

They wanted their Blue all-star teammates to close out the Nebraska Coaches Association all-star volleyball match by winning the fourth, but the duo also wanted one more chance to hook up as setter and outside hitter.
