Giltner defeats McCool Junction in CRC Tournament

YORK — The final stats were overwhelming in Giltner’s favor and so was the final score.

Giltner, the No. 7 seed, had no problem advancing to the second round of the Crossroads Conference Volleyball Tournament as they swept past the No. 10 seed McCool Junction Mustangs 25-5, 25-20, 25-10 at the York City Auditorium.

High Plains sweeps McCool Junction

MCCOOL JUNCTION — High Plains was hitting on all cylinders while McCool Junction was never able to create any sort of rhythm as the Storm bested the Mustangs 25-14, 25-9, 25-6, Tuesday night at McCool Junction High School.

“We played well as a team tonight,” Storm head coach Kristi Lindburg said. “We’ve been working on playing better as a team. It was an all-around good effort.”

YORK – On January 30, 2009 McCool Junction’s McKenzie Hall signed a letter of intent to play volleyball with the Southeastern Community College Storm out of Beatrice.

Two weeks later that dream took a hit when the senior injured her knee in a basketball game just a few games before the Mustangs were due to start sub-district play.

MCCOOL JUNCTION – The schedule for the McCool Junction Mustangs volleyball team earlier in the year was not in their favor with the likes of D1 No. 3 Exeter-Milligan and Class C2 No. 2 Sutton on the docket.

Thursday night the Mustangs started what head coach Guy Stark called, “a stretch of games that were more winnable,” and the Mustangs did just that, sweeping the East Butler Tigers 25-21, 25-18, 27-25.

High Plains, Shelby move on at CRC Tournament

YORK — McCool Junction was able to rally and win the third set, but High Plains won the first two and the fourth as they moved on to face top-seed Clay Center in the Crossroads Conference Tournament, Saturday night in York.

The Storm, who will face the Wildcats at 3:00 p.m., Monday, won the match, 25-23, 25-21, 23-25, 25-13, at the York City Auditorium.

No. 2 Exeter-Milligan sweeps No. 1 Meridian at triangular

Sutton defeats competition at Nebraska Lutheran triangular

WACO — The No. 2 Sutton Fillies showed why they are ranked where they are in Class C2 as the defeated Class D1 No. 8 Nebraska Lutheran (25-8, 27-25) and McCool Junction (25-12, 25-12) to win the Nebraska Lutheran triangular, Thursday night in Waco.

In the first match of the night, Sutton jumped out to an 11-4 lead over NLHS in set number one. The Fillies then pushed their lead to 10, forcing the Lady Knights to burn a timeout. Following the timeout, Sutton rattled off six consecutive points to extend their lead to 20-4. Sutton closed the first set with back-to-back kills by Claire Bergen and Jessica Osterhaus.
