LINCOLN - The way Lincoln Pius X first-team Super-State senior middle blocker Lauren Smith looks at it, her injury could've been much worse.
The 6-foot-4 Creighton volleyball recruit dislocated her elbow and fractured the radius bone in her left arm playing in the Junior Volleyball Association World Challenge tournament in Houston on Saturday. She was playing back-row defense when she collided with a Nebraska Juniors teammate while trying to make a play on a ball.
Hughes, Zastrow, Sack, Effken named Academic All-AmericansPrepVolleyball.com's list of High School Academic All-Americans that was released March 13 includes four Nebraska players, including three from Lincoln Pius X.

Nebraska Coaches Association All-Star game rosters releasedThe Nebraska Coaches Association has finalized the rosters for the 2012 NCA All-Star Volleyball team.
The 29th annual all-star volleyball match will be played on Tuesday, July 24, at Lincoln North Star High School beginning at 7:00 p.m.

Three Nebraska teams end year ranked in ESPN's top 50Three Nebraska teams were ranked in the ESPN final 50 national rankings, including Papillion-LaVista South at No. 1, Lincoln Pius X at No. 33 and Omaha Marian at No. 47.

When the NCAA Div. I Volleyball Tournament gets underway on Thursday and Friday across the country, the state of Nebraska will be well represented on the rosters of the teams that made it.
The home-state University of Nebraska-Lincoln volleyball team boasts eight Nebraska natives on its roster, but there are also at least 14 other native Nebraskans on other team's rosters that made the tournament.
Of these 22 Division I players, they hail for 20 different Nebraska high schools.

By the numbers: The outside hitter led the Titans this fall in kills (402), hitting efficiency (.439), ace serves (53) and digs (382) this season. She also recorded 48 ace blocks In three state tournament matches, Kadie Rolfzen crushed 53 kills, served three aces and registered 37 digs.

After watching their teams lock up state volleyball titles, coaches Gwen Egbert of Papillion-La Vista South and Jake Moore of Lincoln Pius X each pointed to a regular-season match that had a major impact on their squads.
