COLUMBUS — Two very talented teams visited Columbus Tuesday night, but the Shamrocks handled them with relative ease.

The Class C-1, No. 1 Scotus Central Catholic volleyball team swept a pair of ranked opponents in a triangular at the Dowd Activity Center to close out the home schedule with its undefeated record intact. The Shamrocks defeated Class C-2 No. 2 Hastings St. Cecilia 25-21, 25-14 to open the triangular, and beat Class C-1, No. 8 Lincoln Lutheran 25-9, 25-16 to close it. Lincoln Lutheran defeated St. Cecilia in three sets in the second match.

Papillion-LaVista South was pushed to the brink of its first loss against St. James Academy in Lenexa, Kan. but survived. Columbus Scotus in C1 also was pushed but remained unbeaten. Lutheran High Northeast in C2 wasn't so lucky as Guardina Angels took down C2's last unbeaten. Papillion-LaVista swept Class B's new top team Lincoln Pius X in in the finals of the Lincoln Northeast Tournament, while former Class B No. 1 Gretna was defeated for the first time this season. Earlier last week, Kearney Catholic was defeated by Grand Island Central Catholic, switching up the rankings in C1. D1 BDS lost to Class C2 Blue Hill, but remains atop in D1 as does Bertrand in D2 and Lutheran High Northeast in C2 in this week’s Oct. 3 NebVolleyball/Jones Insurance Agency, Inc. LINCOLN - Lincoln Lutheran's 10-1 start has been one of the surprises so far this season in Class C-1 volleyball. It's even caught some of the Warriors off-guard.

After graduating five players from last year's 21-11 team, "everyone thought we were going to be bad,'' said setter Tarynn Rozanek, Lutheran's only senior starter.

The third week of the season has come and gone. There were some more shake ups among some of the top teams in the lower classifications while most of the larger schools remained relatively unchanged in the Sept. 19 NebVolleyball/Jones Insurance Agency, Inc. Rankings for each classification.

MALCOLM - Graduation hit Lincoln Lutheran's volleyball team hard last spring. Their replacements are hitting back this fall.

Despite losing five seniors off last year's 22-10 team, the Warriors are off to a 4-0 start this season. On Thursday, they posted wins over Centennial (25-16, 25-12) and Ashland-Greenwood (25-19, 25-21) during pool play of the 10-team Malcolm Invitational.
