Lincoln Christian will have a chance to earn its first state tournament berth in 14 years after a 25-17, 25-10, 26-24 win against Palmyra in the C-2 subdistrict championship Tuesday night at Lincoln East.
The Crusaders were led by Joelle Andersen's six kills and 15 digs. Alayna Kavanaugh had five kills and four ace serves. The Crusaders improved to 14-16 and will face H-TR-S in the district title game.

The Titans remained calm as the Crusaders mounted a second-set comeback. But Thayer Central held on to win the Lincoln Christian Invitational 25-11, 25-22 .

MALCOLM - Lincoln Lutheran didn't play a match during the opening weekend of the volleyball season, but the Warriors have made up for lost time the past three days.
After taking straight-set victories against defending C-2 state champion Aquinas and Lincoln Christian in a home triangular Tuesday, Lutheran improved to 4-0 with pool-play victories over Centennial (25-11, 25-19) and Ashland-Greenwood (23-25, 25-23, 25-20) at the 10-team Malcolm Invitational tournament Thursday night.

LINCOLN - For former standout Nebraska defensive specialist Rachel Schwartz, taking the volleyball coaching job at Lincoln Christian for the 2010 season means her sports career has come full circle.
One of her first endeavors into athletics was attending Christian’s girls basketball camp as a third-grader, something she didn’t want to do at the time.

Outlook: The ingredients are there to develop into a potential top 10 team in C-1. Humphrey and Workman, a starter at Lincoln Southeast last season, provide a tall and powerful 1-2 punch at the net. Kavanaugh and Anderson are experienced setters, and both Bubak and Ward saw meaningful playing time a year ago.
Aquinas splits matches with Lincoln Lutheran, Lincoln ChristianLincoln — The David City Aquinas volleyball team split a Tuesday triangular hosted by Lincoln Lutheran.
Aquinas fell in the first contest to Lutheran 10-25, 16-25 but bounced back with a win over Lincoln Christian 25-18, 25-22.
Amanda Novacek finished the night with 14 kills. Teammate Conner Novacek finished with seven blocks and Emily Kobza had 22 assists on the night.

LINCOLN — When it comes to volleyball, Rachel Schwartz has just about done it all.
She was an All-Nebraska player at Lincoln East High School in 2004, and a member of Nebraska's national championship squad in 2006. She also had a one-time foray into professional beach volleyball last year at Qwest Center Omaha.
