COLUMBUS — They took very different paths to get there, but the Bulldogs and Bluejays ended up at the same destination ... the final.
The Humphrey and Newman Grove volleyball teams won their respective matches Monday in the Class D1-5 Subdistrict Tournament at the Lakeview High School gym to advance to tonight’s championship match with a spot at districts on the line. Humphrey was cool and collected in a 25-13, 25-23, 25-19 sweep of Osceola, while Newman Grove used a ferocious rally to dispose of Humphrey St. Francis 22-25, 14-25, 25-22, 25-18, 15-13. Osceola defeated East Butler 25-15, 25-14, 25-8 in the evening’s first match.

CLARKSON — It took five sets, but the Patriots earned fifth place in conference.
The Clarkson/Leigh volleyball team defeated Humphrey St. Francis 20-25, 25-20, 22-25, 27-25, 15-6 Tuesday at home, to take fifth in the Cornhusker Conference Tournament.

Cedar Bluffs 3, Parkview Christian 0: Megan Fuchser had 10 digs, four blocks and nine kills to lead Parkview. Brandie Luce had a team-high seven assists for the Patriots.

HUMPHREY — The Flyers had to earn the first set, but they cruised the rest of the way.
The Humphrey St. Francis volleyball team edged Lindsay Holy Family 29-27 before sweeping the match by winning the next two sets 25-17, 25-14.
Liz Sjuts led the Flyers with 11 kills. Lexi Arlt had eight, and Tori Heinen had six. For Holy Family, Kaylee Jensen had 12 kills, while Taylor Bender and Ellie Kurtenbach each had two.

COLUMBUS — No matter what the format, when it comes to volleyball, communication is key.
The Silver team took down the Green team in four sets Thursday during the 21st annual Central Community College/Columbus Telegram All-Star Volleyball Match, winning 25-12, 25-20, 18-25 and 25-21, and talked throughout the match to take the win.

Humphrey St. Francis sweeps BloomfieldHUMPHREY — The Humphrey St. Francis volleyball team rebounded from a tough loss Tuesday with a 25-19, 25-21, 25-19 sweep of Bloomfield at home Thursday.
Behind a balanced attack, the Flyers took it to Bloomfield for their sixth win of the season.
Liz Sjuts had 10 kills, Steph Baumgart had nine and Elissa Jarosz added eight. Brandy Reichmuth had 25 set assists and 10 digs, while Keisha Wemhoff added 10 assists and 11 digs.
