GRAND ISLAND Northwest took the momentum it gained during last weekend’s Beatrice Tournament and kept right on rolling Thursday night in a home triangular.
The Vikings opened with a 25-12, 25-6 victory over McCook and then defeated Holdrege 25-9, 25-9 in the night’s final match, improving to 8-1 on the season.

HOLDREGE — For a moment, the Kearney volleyball team looked to be on its way to a sweep of Holdrege.
Then Holdrege came together, and the Bearcats came apart.
Holdrege rallied from two sets down to pull out a 19-25, 22-25, 25-15, 25-23, 15-13 victory in both teams’ season opener Thursday night.
Coming off last year’s 11-21 season, Holdrege coach Mikala Vrbka said the win was a perfect way to get her team started in the right direction.

GRAND ISLAND — York dropped two of their three games at the Central Conference Tournament to finish sixth, Saturday at Northwest High School.
“We played great in our first game against Northwest,” Dukes head coach Stacey Hall said. “If we would have played like that all day, we could have won all our games today.”

Kayla Karlson had 23 assists for Holdrege.
Kearney Catholic Wins Top Ten Team CampKearney Catholic showed why they are ranked preseason no. 1 by NebVolleyball.com at the Top Ten Camp. The Stars finished first in the A-B-C1 division with a 29-1 record (sets) dropping only one set to Minden. Seaman (Topeka, KS) took second while finishing 24-6. NebVolleyball.com preseason C-1 no. 4 Minden finished 3rd with a 21-9 record. “This was a great learning experience for our team. We have a lot to work on but are very excited for the season to start,” said senior middle hitter Bailey Petersen.

Holdrege sweeps YorkClick to view story on York News-Times
YORK - The York Dukes were still searching for that first win of the season, Tuesday night when the Omaha World-Herald Class B No. 9 Holdrege Dusters came to town.
After a three-set sweep by scores of 25-15, 25-13 and 25-20, York will hope to get that first win this weekend at the Phil Wurst Invite in Seward.
Northwest downs Central City, HoldregeHOLDREGE — Northwest breezed past two opponents at the Holdrege triangular.
Northwest defeated Central City 25-8, 25-7 as Kayla Faaborg led the Vikings with 17 points and nine assists. Kalee Bockmann added 11 points, Kayla Havranek 10 digs, and Taylor Johnson, Amelia Boehler and MaKayla Schimmer each had five kills.
Lexi Malm led the Bison with six kills and five digs.
