Hitchcock County's Laramey Lewis to play basketball for UNK

KEARNEY — Laramey Lewis, a senior at Hitchcock County High School, will join the University of Nebraska at Kearney women’s basketball team next winter, according to UNK head coach Kevin Chaney.

A 5-foot, 8-inch shooting guard, she joins Lexington guard Sydney Seberger as UNK recruits so far this year. The Lopers have five seniors on this year’s team.

Hitchcock County suffers first loss

MAYWOOD - The Hitchcock County High School volleyball team was playing in a hole most of the night Tuesday, Oct. 18, in the Republican Plains Activities Conference (RPAC) Tournament championship match.

The Falcons dug too many deep holes that they could not dig back out from, as Bertrand beat Hitchcock County for the RPAC Tournament title. Bertrand defeated the Falcons 22-25, 25-22, 25-23, 25-16 in the championship match at the Maywood High School gym.

Those are the words Bertrand coach Lisa Mason used to describe the Class D2 No. 1-rated Vikings' 22-25, 25-22, 25-23, 25-16 win over previously unbeaten D1 No. 6 Hitchcock County in the Republican Plains Activities Conference Tournament volleyball championship Tuesday night.

Teams have been seeded and are ready to begin play in the opening rounds of the Republican Plains Athletic Conference at 4 sites Monday, Oct. 17th. The Conference features 3 Omaha World Herald top ten teams including #5 Paxton and # 6 Hitchcock County in D-1 and class D-2 #1 rated Bertrand. Teams are seeded according to win-loss record and winning percentage.
