CENTRAL CITY - It’s the time of the year on the high school volleyball scene where teams are down to their final chances to keep their seasons alive.
On Monday night the High Plains Storm defeated the Fullerton Warriors in three straight sets to advance to the 8 p.m. matchup with No. 1 seed Cedar Valley, while the Heartland Huskies were nearly lulled into a trap set by the Palmer Tigers.

POLK — The Bulldogs blocked their way to a pair of victories Tuesday at a triangular in Polk.
The Lindsay Holy Family volleyball team racked up a total of 50 blocks in wins over High Plains and St. Edward. The Bulldogs defeated the Storm 25-19, 25-18 and downed the Beavers 25-19, 24-26, 25-15. High Plains defeated St. Edward 22-25, 25-13, 25-16 in the other match.

POLK — The Storm was competitive, but didn’t quite have enough.
The High Plains volleyball team stayed within striking distance all night, but fell in straight sets to Giltner Thursday in Polk. The Hornets won the match 25-17, 25-17, 25-20.

COLUMBUS — No matter what the format, when it comes to volleyball, communication is key.
The Silver team took down the Green team in four sets Thursday during the 21st annual Central Community College/Columbus Telegram All-Star Volleyball Match, winning 25-12, 25-20, 18-25 and 25-21, and talked throughout the match to take the win.
