Back in action the Hemingford High School Volleyball team began practice on Monday, August 15.

Coach Kerri Heusman will have an experienced squad in her first year at the helm, as six seniors return in 2011.

Gordon-Rushville twins Alicia and Alyssa Ostrander made their final time together on the volleyball court a memorable one as the sisters helped the West All-Stars post a thrilling five-set win over the East in the 25th annual West Nebraska All-Star Volleyball Match at Western Nebraska Community College on Saturday afternoon.

Alicia Ostrander, who is headed to Nebraska to play volleyball, led the West with 10 kills. She earned the West MVP honors after helping the West to a 25-18, 25-15, 23-25, 22-25, 15-3 win. It was the West’s sixth straight win over the East.

HEMINGFORD - Katee Folkerts couldn’t tell you the last time a girl from Hemingford was selected for the annual West Nebraska All-Star Volleyball Game.

That’s probably because she was in elementary school the last time a Hemingford girl was chosen to play in the all-star contest.

SCOTTSBLUFF—The volleyball coaches have been chosen to lead the West and East teams for the 27th annual West Nebraska All-Star Volleyball Game. This year’s game will be played Saturday, June 4th in Scottsbluff at Cougar Palace on the campus of Western Nebraska Community College. Game time is 2 p.m. MDT.

Michelle Peters from Mitchell High School will be the Head Coach for the West. This past season, Peters led her team to a 22-10 record. Mitchell made it to the semi-finals for the C2-12 district tournament where they lost to district champion Ogallala. This is Coach Peter’s second time as a coach in the All Star Game. She served as the assistant coach for the West in 2004

Lisa Janssen from Hemingford High School has been chosen as the assistant coach for the West squad for this year’s game.

Leading the East volleyball team is Lori Mau from Maxwell High School. This past season Mau led Maxwell to a record regular season record of 14-16.They lost to Cambridge in the semi-finals of the D1-11 District. This is Coach Mau’s first appearance as a coach in the West Nebraska All Star Volleyball Game.

Erica Burson from Lexington High School will serve as the assistant coach for the East squad.

A portion of the proceeds from the West Nebraska All-Star Volleyball game benefit the Scottsbluff County Volunteer Center.

The Panhandle Conference recently released its postseason honors.

SCOTTSBLUFF - Some of the top players from around the region reported for practice Wednesday in preparation for this year’s West Nebraska All-Star Volleyball Match.

This year’s contest marks the silver anniversary of the event. The match will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday at Western Nebraska Community College in Scottsbluff.
