Kearney Catholic dropped one set to win the Class A, B, C1 division at the Top Ten Tournament in Kearney.

The Kearney Catholic JV won the C2 division with a 24-4 record.

Giltner took home top honors in the D1/D2 division with a 28-2 record.

CENTRAL CITY - It’s the time of the year on the high school volleyball scene where teams are down to their final chances to keep their seasons alive.

On Monday night the High Plains Storm defeated the Fullerton Warriors in three straight sets to advance to the 8 p.m. matchup with No. 1 seed Cedar Valley, while the Heartland Huskies were nearly lulled into a trap set by the Palmer Tigers.

The first round of sub-district play started out all in the Huskie’s favor. However, after quickly taking the first two sets, the Huskies then dropped the next two sets to make this first round game more of a nail biter than the Huskies had hoped for. In the end, the Huskies took over the fifth set and will move on to the next round as they defeated the Palmer Tigers 25-21, 25-17, 11-25, 22-25 and 15-4.

Sara Brune led the Huskies tonight with 21 kills, 13 digs and 3 blocks.

It’s conference tournament time across the state with quite a few already having been completed last week, many more this week and the final ones next week. Conference Tournaments will affect the rankings in all division as many of the top teams likely will face each other. Some those results were reflected in this week’s new NebVolleyball/Jones Insurance Agency, Inc. Rankings for each classification.

Papillion-LaVista swept Class B's new top team Lincoln Pius X in in the finals of the Lincoln Northeast Tournament, while former Class B No. 1 Gretna was defeated for the first time this season. Earlier last week, Kearney Catholic was defeated by Grand Island Central Catholic, switching up the rankings in C1. D1 BDS lost to Class C2 Blue Hill, but remains atop in D1 as does Bertrand in D2 and Lutheran High Northeast in C2 in this week’s Oct. 3 NebVolleyball/Jones Insurance Agency, Inc. Rankings for each classification.
