HASTINGS - There were some things working against the Hastings St. Cecilia volleyball team Thursday, like a lackluster practice a day earlier and the fact it's homecoming week.

The Class C-2 No. 3 Hawkettes put aside all the distractions and won their eight-team invitational against three other ranked teams. After winning two pool-play matches Tuesday, St. Cecilia (15-4) finished pool play Thursday with a 25-12, 25-21 win against Class D-1 No. 4 Heartland before posting a 25-18, 25-17 triumph against Class C-2 No. 5 Wood River in the finals.
