Bellevue University assistant Buttermore named head coach at Hastings College|

Bellevue University Matt Buttermore was named the new head volleyball coach at Hastings College on Monday. |
Bellevue University assistant volleyball coach Matt Buttermore has been named head volleyball coach at Hastings (Neb.) College in an announcement made today by Hastings College Athletic Director Ian Roberts. He will begin his new position in January.
Buttermore has been on Bruin head coach Trish Siedlik's staff the past three seasons, helping guide BU to three-straight appearances in the NAIA Volleyball National Championship, as well as two MCAC regular season and two MCAC tournament titles.
"Matt will be missed," said Siedlik. "I knew from the day I asked him to join our staff, this day would soon come. Our program was fortunate to have such a talented and patient coach like Matt," added Siedlik.
Hastings College sweeps Concordia in GPAC volleyballHastings College cruised to a 3-0 GPAC volleyball win over Concordia on Thursday evening in Hastings . Scores of the match were 25-15, 25-20 and 25-13.
Amanda Kisker ( Lincoln , Neb. ) and Ashlea Vaudt ( Kalispell , Mont. ) combined for 13 kills on the night for the Bulldogs. Kisker had seven to go along with 12 digs, and Vaudt added six kills and two blocks on the night. Alexa Hopping had 13 set assists, and Carli Smith ( Temecula , Calif. ) had a team-best 14 digs on the night for the Bulldogs.
Concordia concludes the regular season at Northwestern College on Saturday.
College of St. Mary swept by Bellevue University, concludes season this weekendOMAHA - College of Saint Mary volleyball was swept at home 3-0 by 25th-rated Bellevue University. Game scores were 25-19, 25-8, and 25-20. CSM is now 9-23 overall and 4-5 in conference play.
Ashley Iwanski (Omaha, Neb.) led the Flames with five kills. Iwanski also had two ace serves and 11 defensive digs. Joy Leick (Omaha, Neb.) and Jessica Kuehner (Omaha, Neb.) each had four kills. Kaylee Wallace (Omaha, Neb.) had ten set assists to lead the CSM offense. Baylee Collins (North Platte, Neb.) had nine digs in the loss. Courtney Iwanski (Omaha, Neb.) had eight digs and three kills.
CSM finishes the regular season at home this weekend. The Flames host Central Christian on Friday night, November 4, at 7:00pm. Friday’s game will honor volleyball’s lone senior player and parents of all players. Saturday afternoon, Haskell University visits the Lied Fitness Center for a 3:00pm match.
Midland avenges loss to Hastings CollegeMidland University scored another big conference win Tuesday, beating Hastings College 3-1 (25-21, 17-25, 25-19, 25-21). In front of a record setting crowd, the Warriors overcame a seven point deficit in game four to earn the victory.
"I'm pleased with the way the team battled back to get a win tonight," said Paul Giesselmann, Midland University volleyball head coach. "We probably beat the most athletic team in the conference tonight. This was just a start to what is a huge week for us."
Ashley Wheeler led the Warriors in kills with 13, while Katie Dettmer added 10 kills. Becca Gradoville led the team in digs with 18, and Megan Farley added 16 digs and 35 set assists.
Hastings College ends Midland University's winning streakHastings, Neb. - Midland University's eight game winning streak was snapped by Hastings College on Wednesday. The Warriors lost in three sets (20-25, 22-25, 15-25) as Hastings handed Midland their first GPAC loss of the season.
"I was disappointed in our lack of effort," said Paul Giesselmann, Midland University volleyball head coach. "Hastings beat us in every aspect of the game. We will focus on correcting our mistakes in practice this week and prepare for Saturday's match."
Katie Dettmer had nine kills for the Warriors. Becca Gradoville led the team in digs with 11, and Megan Farley had 29 set assists.
Hastings sweeps Briar CliffHastings College started strong and never looked back against Briar Cliff on Saturday, winning 25-16, 25-22, 25-16. Haley Beardsley led a balanced attack dishing out 41 assists. Kendra Schwein had 11 kills and hit .333 while Kirsten Nickel had 10.
Shayna Schacher had 10 kills and hit .333 while adding two solo blocks and four block assists. Carissa Kinne had 20 digs and Kyla Havranek and Tracia Norblade each had 12 digs. HC is now 12-10 and their next match is a home game against Midland University on Oct. 5.
Hastings College sweeps ConcordiaHastings College swept past Concordia in GPAC volleyball on Tuesday evening in Seward. Scores of the match were 25-10, 25-15 and 25-19. Hastings improved to 11-10 overall and 2-3 in GPAC play with the victory. Concordia dropped to 7-12 overall and 1-4 in GPAC play.
The visiting Broncos jumped out to big leads and cruised to wins in the first two sets. Concordia managed to keep things close for much of the third set. The Bulldogs got within one at 16-15, but Hastings College poured it on from there. The Broncos finished with a .398 team attack percentage in the win. In the first two sets, Hastings finished with .435 and .536 attack percentages, respectively.
Shayna Schacher led the way for Hastings College with a game-high 14 kills. Kirsten Nickel added nine kills, while Kendra Schwein and McKayla Gowen delivered seven kills apiece for a balanced Hastings College attack. Haley Beardsley handed out 37 set assists on the night, and Carissa Kinne had a team-best six digs for the Broncos.
Hastings College finished 1-3 at Red Raider ClassicORANGE CITY, IOWA - The Hastings College volleyball team won a five-set match over Briar Cliff and lost a five-set match to Jamestown in the final day of the Red Raider Classic on Saturday at Orange City, Iowa.

Hastings College drops a pair of close matches ORANGE CITY, IOWA - The Hastings College volleyball team dropped a heartbreaker to MidAmerica Nazarene to open the Lyndi Rouzee/Abbie Welliver coaching debut at the Red Raider Tournament in Orange City, Iowa on Friday night.

Doane College picked to win GPAC, Nebraska Wesleyan fourth, Hastings College fifth, Midland seventh and Concordia 10thDoane College, after a trip to the NAIA National Tournament in 2010, is the GPAC coaches’ pick to win the league title in 2011.
The Tigers, coached by Cindy Meyer, compiled a 27-8 overall record last fall and placed second in the conference regular season with a 14-2 record. Doane accumulated 94 points and five first place votes in the poll of league coaches.
Northwestern, who posted a 36-2 overall and 16-0 league record last fall, is tabbed number two in the preseason with 91 points and four first place mentions. Dordt is picked third with 78 points, while Nebraska Wesleyan is fourth with 66. The final two first place votes went to Hastings who is fifth in the early season poll with 62 points. Northwestern, Doane, and Briar Cliff participated at the NAIA National Volleyball Championship Final Site in Sioux City last year.
