It’s conference tournament time across the state with quite a few already having been completed last week, many more this week and the final ones next week. Conference Tournaments will affect the rankings in all division as many of the top teams likely will face each other. Papillion-LaVista swept Class B's new top team Lincoln Pius X in in the finals of the Lincoln Northeast Tournament, while former Class B No. 1 Gretna was defeated for the first time this season. Earlier last week, Kearney Catholic was defeated by Grand Island Central Catholic, switching up the rankings in C1. D1 BDS lost to Class C2 Blue Hill, but remains atop in D1 as does Bertrand in D2 and Lutheran High Northeast in C2 in this week’s Oct. 3 NebVolleyball/Jones Insurance Agency, Inc. Rankings for each classification.

STANTON — Twin River beat Hartington Cedar Catholic 25-21, 28-26, 25-17 in the finals of the Stanton Volleyball Tournament Saturday.

Lexi Steffen had 10 kills and Emily Schrempp had 22 assists and 13 digs to lead Cedar Catholic. Karly Noecker posted five ace serves, Kallie Leise had 12 digs and Siera Becker added 11 digs for the Trojans.

The third week of the season has come and gone. There were some more shake ups among some of the top teams in the lower classifications while most of the larger schools remained relatively unchanged in the Sept. 19 NebVolleyball/Jones Insurance Agency, Inc. Rankings for each classification.

GRAND ISLAND — Cedar Catholic entered this year’s State Volleyball Tournament as a true underdog.
The odds were definitely stacked against them.

The Lady Trojans hadn’t been to this post-season dance in a generation. They were coming to the party with a rookie coach and had to back into the tourney with a wildcard.
