HASTINGS - Michaela Mestl and Bailey Sokolowski had 12 kills apiece to lead No. 3 Kearney Catholic to a 25-19, 25-9, 25-16 win against unranked Norfolk Catholic on Thursday in the first round of the
Class C-1 state volleyball tournament at Hastings College.
Ironically, many of the 6-foot-1 Sokolowski's kills came on tips, and the 5-6 Mestl's were mostly from powerful swings. But Stars coach Kris Conner wasn't surprised.
