Nebraska Coaches Association All-Star game rosters releasedThe Nebraska Coaches Association has finalized the rosters for the 2012 NCA All-Star Volleyball team.
The 29th annual all-star volleyball match will be played on Tuesday, July 24, at Lincoln North Star High School beginning at 7:00 p.m.

HASTINGS -- Top-ranked and defending champion Lutheran High Northeast proved true the adage "more is better" Thursday in the first round of the Class C-2 state volleyball tournament at Hastings High School.
The Titans (32-1) used kills from seven different players to eliminate Elmwood-Murdock 25-18, 25-11, 25-20, while the Knights got kills from only Megan Schmale (15) and Hanna Justesen (14).

Some eyebrows were raised when freshman Hanna Justesen was in the Elmwood-Murdock volleyball starting lineup from Day 1 this season.
It didn't take long for the dynamic 5-foot-9 middle blocker to blast some eye-opening kills and win over the doubters. Justesen combines with 6-foot senior all-stater Megan Schmale to provide the 1-2 punch that has powered the ninth-ranked Knights (28-7) into the Class C-2 state tournament.

Megan Schmale had 22 kills, six ace serves and four solo blocks as Elmwood-Murdock earned a 25-10, 23-25, 26-24, 25-16 win against Tri County in the C1-2 district final near Firth on Friday.
The Knights (28-7) also got 21 kills, five ace serves and four blocks from freshman Hanna Justesen. Erin Dwyer had 33 set assists.

Elmwood-Murdock had 13 ace blocks in a 25-23, 25-20, 25-12 victory against Palmyra in the subdistrict final in Waverly. The C-2 ninth-ranked Knights had five blocks in the third set to put the game away.
"We really turned the match around with ace blocks," Elmwood-Murdock coach Peter Vavak said. "We felt like if we could block them, we could win the match. We beat them at the net and it's a great win for us."

LINCOLN – Elmwood-Murdock earned third place in the East Central Nebraska Conference volleyball tournament Saturday afternoon with a dramatic comeback against one of the top teams in the league.
Elmwood-Murdock rallied from a two-game deficit to defeat Palmyra 20-25, 15-25, 25-20, 25-23, 15-12 in the third-place match. The comeback helped ease the sting of a five-game loss to Mead in the tournament semifinals earlier in the day at Southeast Community College-Lincoln.

Oct. 3 Rankings Papillion-LaVista swept Class B's new top team Lincoln Pius X in in the finals of the Lincoln Northeast Tournament, while former Class B No. 1 Gretna was defeated for the first time this season. Earlier last week, Kearney Catholic was defeated by Grand Island Central Catholic, switching up the rankings in C1. D1 BDS lost to Class C2 Blue Hill, but remains atop in D1 as does Bertrand in D2 and Lutheran High Northeast in C2 in this week’s Oct. 3 NebVolleyball/Jones Insurance Agency, Inc.
