COLUMBUS — They took very different paths to get there, but the Bulldogs and Bluejays ended up at the same destination ... the final.
The Humphrey and Newman Grove volleyball teams won their respective matches Monday in the Class D1-5 Subdistrict Tournament at the Lakeview High School gym to advance to tonight’s championship match with a spot at districts on the line. Humphrey was cool and collected in a 25-13, 25-23, 25-19 sweep of Osceola, while Newman Grove used a ferocious rally to dispose of Humphrey St. Francis 22-25, 14-25, 25-22, 25-18, 15-13. Osceola defeated East Butler 25-15, 25-14, 25-8 in the evening’s first match.

LOUISVILLE – Cass County students were named to All-East Central Nebraska Conference volleyball teams earlier this week during a meeting of league athletic directors and coaches.
Four Elmwood-Murdock players, three Louisville athletes, three Weeping Water players and two Conestoga athletes were named to either first-team, second-team, third-team or honorable mention squads. Elmwood-Murdock junior Megan Schmale and Louisville junior Natalie Minchow were both on the first team and Elmwood-Murdock senior Erika Stubbendeck was on the second team. Weeping Water senior Kylee Schreiner was a third-team selection.

CONESTOGA - East Butler-Prague turned down the volume on an energetic atmosphere in Conestoga's gym by defeating the Cougar volleyball team in three games Thursday night.
The Tigers survived the first game 25-22 and defeated CHS 25-9, 25-19 in the other two games to earn their second victory of the season. East Butler-Prague improved to 2-20. Conestoga fell to 1-20.

MCCOOL JUNCTION – The schedule for the McCool Junction Mustangs volleyball team earlier in the year was not in their favor with the likes of D1 No. 3 Exeter-Milligan and Class C2 No. 2 Sutton on the docket.
Thursday night the Mustangs started what head coach Guy Stark called, “a stretch of games that were more winnable,” and the Mustangs did just that, sweeping the East Butler Tigers 25-21, 25-18, 27-25.
Mead goes 1-1 at triangularMead defeated East Butler in the first game of the Mead triangular on Thursday night, 25-12, 25-9 before falling to Cedar Bluffs 24-26, 25-23, 13-25.
Senior Emily Garcia led our team with three ace serves. Jenna Schutt and Samantha Ballard led the team with blocking with two assists each. Garcia and Krissy Johnson did great with their setting transitions finishing with three and six assists respectively. Amy Wimer and sophomore Allison Hough each had one kill while Jenna Schutt had four and Samantha Ballard led with seven kills.

Osceola defeats East ButlerOSCEOLA — The Osceola volleyball team picked up a straight set win over East Butler, 25-12, 25-13, 25-19, Tuesday night in Osceola.
Terra Micek led the Bulldogs with 12 kills and eight blocks. Kaitlyn Schlief had six blocks, while Brandi Johansen has six digs and Alex Hayes had five.
Michelle Wilgocki was 41-49 setting with 17 set assists.
Cedar Bluff opens 2009 season with two winsMEAD - Cedar Bluffs opened its volleyball season on Thursday with a pair of wins at the Mead Triangular.
The Wildcats defeated East Butler 25-9, 25-23.
