Doane's Rollman named third-team NAIA All-AmericanSusan Rollman, the 2011 GPAC Player-of-the-Year, was named an NAIA All-American on Monday. Rollman was selected Third Team All-American honors after earning Second Team honors last year. She received honorable mention honors during her freshman year.
Rollman, a junior from Humphrey, saw her numbers improve over last year. This past season, she averaged 3.40 kills per set and posted a .360 attack percentage, which ranked 14th in the NAIA.
Her career attack percentage is .345 and ranks first on the school charts. She had totaled 1,114 career kills in three seasons along with 404 total blocks which ranks seventh-most in school history.
Tigers Drop GPAC Championship MatchThe Tiger volleyball team saw their season come to a close on Saturday evening in the finals of the GPAC championship. Doane finished the year with a 29-6 record but will not qualify for the national tournament because they are not in the Top 25. The Tigers fell in the championship game to Morningside, 3-1, marking the third straight year that the Tigers took runner-up honors in the tourney.
Doane was led on the day by Emily Max as she posted 17 kills and a .429 attack percentage. Terra Andreasen added 12 kills while Susan Rollman and Ashley Axmann added 11 apiece.
Desiree Erikson finished with 48 set assists for Doane while Julie Els had a match-high 20 digs for the Tigers. Max had the lone ace serve in the match. Andreasen and Rollman finished with two total blocks apiece as Doane ended with four team blocks.
Morningside was led by Maggie Vondrak and Briana Schaeuble's 14 kills apiece. Monica Iverson dished out 52 assists for the Mustangs.
Rollman named GPAC Player of Year, five Tigers receive honorsThe Great Plains Athletic Conference announced the All-Conference team for 2011 this week and five Doane Tigers were recognized by the conference coaches. Doane finished the year with a 29-6 overall record and took runner-up honors in the conference standings.
Leading the way was middle blocker Susan Rollman, named the GPAC Player-of-the-Year. An All-American a year ago, Rollman was one of the top attackers in the conference. A junior from Humphrey, she led the GPAC in attack percentage with a mark of .361 and was second in the conference in kills with 3.40 per set. Rollman led the team with 117 total blocks.
Ashley Axmann, a sophomore outside hitter from Pleasanton, joined Rollman on the All-GPAC First Team for the second straight year. Axmann led the GPAC in kills with 3.45 per set and finished third on the team with 54 total blocks.
On the All-GPAC Second Team were Emily Max and Terra Andreasen. Max, a sophomore middle blocker from Gothenburg, battled through injuries to post 2.67 kills per set and 102 total blocks. Andreasen, a senior from Bellevue, was third on the team in digs with 343. She was fourth on the squad with 2.29 kills per set.
Midland, Doane to meet in GPAC semifinalsFREMONT - Midland University earned a spot in the GPAC Semifinals on Tuesday, beating Hastings College in the quarterfinal round of the GPAC Postseason Tournament, 3-2 (20-25, 25-21, 21-25, 25-20, 15-13). The Warriors held Hastings College to a hitting percentage of .073 in the postseason victory.
“I’m really proud of the way our team responded late in a pivotal game,” said Paul Giesselmann, Midland University volleyball head coach. “We are excited to get another chance to play Doane, have another practice, and play another tournament game, which is another opportunity for us to grow as a program.”
Mackenzie Scheef led the Warriors with 15 kills, hitting .353 on the night. Halie Wewel added 12 kills and three blocks. Becca Gradoville led Midland in digs with 26, while Ashley Wheeler contributed 20 digs and 11 kills. Megan Farley recorded 43 set assists in the win.
Doane defeats Midland in four setsMidland University was defeated by Doane College on Wednesday, 3-1 (21-25, 25-21, 22-25, 21-25).
"At times we were the best team on the court, but inconsistent play cost us the match," said Paul Giesselmann, Midland University volleyball head coach. "We hit well enough to win, but our serving and lack of defense hurt us throughout the match."
Ashley Wheeler led the Warriors in kills with 15 and recorded two service aces. Keri Lunz added 13 kills, and Becca Gradoville led the Warriors in digs with 19.
Bellevue No. 15, Doane, Midland receive votes in latest NAIA pollThe Midland University volleyball team received votes in the latest NAIA Volleyball Coaches' Poll. The Warriors, now 12-5 on the season, are currently atop the Great Plains Athletic Conference standings.
Midland University is back in action on Wednesday night in Lincoln, Neb. against Nebraska Wesleyan.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Texas at Brownsville began its march through the Red River Athletic Conference with a pair of league wins over the past week and cemented itself as a unanimous No. 1 in the Tachikara-NAIA Volleyball Coaches' Top 25 Poll, the national office announced Tuesday. The Scorpions, who defeated Wiley (Texas) and Texas College to open up conference play, garnered all 23 first-place votes and 653 points.
Midland defeats DoaneFREMONT - The Midland University volleyball team landed a big win over No.11 Doane College Wednesday. The Warriors beat the Tigers 3-1 (25-17, 25-21, 20-25, 28-26). Doane College held a season record of 18-1 going into the conference game.
"This was a quality win over a very respected opponent," said Paul Giesselmann, Midland University head volleyball coach. "Our team was down late and I was very proud of how they battle back and played to finish the match. We played to win the game at the end instead of playing scared."
Katie Dettmer led the Warriors in kills with 15 and a hitting percentage of .333 while Halie Wewel had 12 kills and a .303 hitting percentage. Becca Gradoville led with 19 digs as Ashley Wheeler had 11. Megan Farley recorded 51 set assists with a serve ace.
Concordia comes up just short in upset bid of DoaneCRETE - Concordia’s upset bid fell just short, as #12 Doane College held on for a 3-2 volleyball win over Concordia on Wednesday evening in Crete . Scores of the match were 25-19, 22-25, 23-25, 25-15 and 17-15. Concordia rallied in the final set and had match point at 15-14, but the Tigers rattled off three straight points to pick up the win. Doane won its 14th straight to move to 17-1 overall (2-0 GPAC) on the year. Concordia slipped to 5-10 overall (0-2 GPAC).
The Tigers held a comfortable lead for much of the first set. The Bulldogs made a late push, but it wasn’t enough as Doane secured the 25-19 win. In set two, Concordia took advantage of some Tiger miscues to jump out to a 22-16 lead. Doane cut the lead to two at 24-22, but the Bulldogs closed out the set to tie the match at 1-1.
Doane College improves to 5-1 with two victories at Red Raider ClassicORANGE CITY, IOWA - The Doane College volleyball team bounced back from its first loss of the season to defeat Baker University on Friday at the Red Raider Classic at Orange City, Iowa.

Doane College finishes 3-1 at Ramada Plaza Tournament in IndianaWINONA LAKE, Ind. - The No. 12 Doane College volleyball team suffered its first loss of the season against Indiana Universty East in the final game of the Grace College Ramada Plaza Tournament.
