WAYNE, Neb. - Three athletes, a former coach and two contributors will be inducted into the Wayne State College Athletic Hall of Fame this weekend.

The inductees will be honored at halftime of the football game against the University of Mary at Cunningham Field Saturday. An induction banquet will be held Saturday at the Frey Conference Suite of the WSC Student Center with a social hour beginning at 5:30 p.m. and the induction from 6:15 to 8:30.

Included in the inductees is Rayna Nelsen Cain (athlete): Nelsen was a standout volleyball player from 1999-2002. The Homer, Neb., native was a four-time All-Northern Sun Conference first team selection and finished her career ranked fourth on the school's all-time kills list with 1,517. Nelsen helped Wayne State to the 2001 NSIC regular season title and had 534 kills during her senior season in 2002, which ranks fifth-most in a single season. She also finished her career ranking third in block assists with 388. Nelsen was the first Wayne State athlete to be named All-NSIC all four seasons and was an AVCA All-North Central Region honorable mention pick as a senior.

The Dana College volleyball team saw its season come to an end on Saturday evening in Sioux City, Iowa. The Vikings lost 3-0 to second seeded Morningside College 25-10, 25-5, 25-11.

Kali Brayfield and Katie Dettmer each had three kills to lead the team. Stephanie Connell had a team high six set assists. Wendy Boller added three set assists. Lexie Myers and Erin Shanahan had five defensive digs in the loss. Courtney Aspegren had one solo block and one block assist.

In the loss, senior Kali Brayfield set the career mark for kills. Brayfield’s 1174 kills eclipses the mark of 1171 set by Shelli Wiebelhaus from 1990-1993. Brayfield also set a career record for most points in a career with 1671.5 (1174 kills, 111 aces, 187 solo blocks and 399 assisted blocks). Amy Nissen owned the former mark with 1577.5 (1066 kills, 92 aces, 188 solo blocks and 463 assisted blocks) from 1985-1987.

Dana finishes the season with a 22-14 mark. The 22 wins are the most in the program since the 1993 season, where the Vikings won 30 matches.

BLAIR, Neb. — For the first time since 1993, the Dana College volleyball team has defeated No. 24 Nebraska Wesleyan.

Dana trailed 2-0 before storming back to triumph 23-25, 17-25, 25-22, 25-22, 15-9 on Friday night.

Kali Brayfield had 13 kills to go with two solo blocks and seven block assists. Megan Higgins had 17 kills. Steph Connell had 22 set assists, while freshman Wendy Boller added 23 assists. Erin Shanahan had 31 digs.

BLAIR - The Dana College volleyball team opened its season with a five set victory over the College of St. Mary on Tuesday night. The Vikings won by the individual game scores of 21-25, 27-25, 25-16, 19-25, 15-11.
The Vikings were led by Megan Higgins (JR, Council Bluffs, IA) with nine kills. Two freshman opened up their college careers in dominate fashion. Katie Dettmer (Avoca, NE) had eight kills in her first college match. Amanda Kisker (FR, Lincoln, Nebraska) added seven kills. Senior Kali Brayfield (Elkhorn, Nebraska) had eight aces and six blocks in the win. Steph Connell (JR, Harlan, IA) and Wendy Boller (FR, Dorchester, NE) combined for 38 assists.

The Viking victory is the program’s first win over the Flames since the 1994 season. Dana College is 1-0 overall. The Vikings travel to Orange City, Iowa this weekend to take part in the Red Raider Classic. Dana will play four games this weekend against Black Hills State, Jamestown, Valley City State, and Mayville State.

Dana College swept the Midland Lutheran College volleyball team Thursday 3-0.

Dana won 25-18, 25-23-25-20 to improve to 10-5 on the season and 2-1 in the Great Plains Athletic Conference. Midland is now 3-8 overall and 0-3 in GPAC play.

Amanda Hunt led Midland with 12 kills while Halie Wewel added 11.

BLAIR – The start of July was supposed to mark the final summer preparations for the Dana College volleyball team.

Dana College Lincoln East senior Jordane Warkentin signs her national letter of intent to play at Dana College.

BLAIR - The Dana College volleyball program and head coach Rayna Cain announced their first signing for the 2010-2011 school year. Jordane Warkentin, a defensive specialist and Libero, from Lincoln East High School in Lincoln, Nebraska has signed a national letter of intent with Dana College.

Warkentin was a four-year scholar-athlete at Lincoln East. She won academic all-conference and all-state awards this past season. Jordane plans to major in pre-med and criminal justice.

SIOUX CITY, IOWA – The 2009 Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) Volleyball All-
Conference Team has been selected. Randa Hulstein from Northwestern was the selected as the Hauff
Mid-America Sports/GPAC Player-of-the-Year. Kyle Van Den Bosch from Northwestern was named
the Hauff Mid-America Sports/GPAC Coach-of-the-Year. Northwestern was the regular season
champion for 2009 with a 16-0 league record. The GPAC All-Conference teams were selected by the
league coaches.

The Dana College volleyball team advanced to the GPAC quarterfinals with a win over Concordia University Wednesday night in Blair. The Vikings downed the Bulldogs 3-1.

Kali Brayfield led the Vikings with 10 kills and one error of 22 attempts. Brayfield also had eight service aces on 22 serves, two solo blocks, and three assisted blocks. April Fitch, Megan Higgins, and Katie Dittmer each had eight kills in the win. Courtney Aspegren added seven kills and one error on 14 attempts. Stephanie Connell and Wendy Boller each had 18 set assists. Erin Shanahan had 20 defensive digs. Amberly Heslinga added 14 digs.

It was a record setting night for Dana’s Brayfield as she set a Dana team record with eight aces in a match. She also tied the career kills record with 1171. Last game, Brayfield set the career mark for most points with 1668.5 total points.

Dana is now 22-13 overall. The Vikings advance to play second seeded Morningside College in Sioux City, Iowa on Nov 7 at 7:30pm.

BLAIR - The Dana College volleyball team split a pair of games to close out the 2009 regular season. Dana lost a 3-1 match on the road to Hastings College and defeated Concordia University 3-2 at home on Saturday.
