Leah McNary went into the summer break looking to take her volleyball game to the next level. What she didn’t expect is how fast she would be working on that task –when a great opportunity came along, it was hard for her to turn down.
It started as a normal day towards the end of the spring season, but soon turned into a whirlwind of activity as she suddenly was headed to China to train with some of that country’s best volleyball players.

INDIANAPOLIS – Several players with Cass County or southeast Nebraska ties learned Sunday afternoon they would join their teammates in the NCAA Division I volleyball tournament.
Elmwood-Murdock graduate Megan Bober and her Creighton teammates earned the school’s first NCAA volleyball tournament berth. The Bluejays (20-11) will travel to Minneapolis Dec. 3-4 for first- and second-round matches. The team will play Iowa State (20-8) in the opening round. The winner will take on either 10th-seeded Minnesota (24-8) or North Dakota State (20-10) the following night.
ST. LOUIS -- Ethan Finlay and Megan Bober of Creighton University have been selected the Prairie Farms/Missouri Valley Conference Scholar-Athletes of the Week, Commissioner Doug Elgin announced today. Finlay and Bober were honored for their performance during the period of November 15-21.
Now in its 12th year of existence, The Valley’s Scholar-Athlete program is sponsored by Prairie Farms, Roberts and Hiland Dairies. On a weekly basis, the Conference honors its student-athletes for their athletic performance for a one-week period and academic success in the classroom.
A forward for the Creighton men’s soccer team, Finlay, a junior from Marshfield, Wisconsin, helped the Bluejays advance to the second round of the NCAA Tournament, scoring a total of three goals in NCAA Tournament matches versus New Mexico and SMU.
Last week the Lady Vikings ran into a buzz saw as they were defeated by Winside on Tuesday and Creighton on Thursday. We just never got out of the gate against Winside. They are great team but when you give them several unforced errors and free ball attempts, they are the kind of team that will eat you up.
Against Creighton we started out slow but came back and played a pretty good 2nd game but then did not play very aggressively at the net and that took its toll on us in the end. The schedule does not get any easier down the stretch as we play Hartington and Wakefield on Tuesday night and then travel to Niobrara for triangular action with NVC and Clearwater/Orchard.
SPRINGFIELD, Mo. -- In a match full of runs, Missouri State had the last and most important one to claim a 3-1 victory over Creighton Volleyball on Friday night at Hammons Student Center. Leading 20-16 late in the fourth set, Creighton seemed primed to force a fifth set before a match-ending 9-1 blitz by MSU ended the night.
Scores of the match in favor of MSU were 25-16, 21-25, 25-19, 25-21.
MSU is now 12-5 on the season and 5-1 in the Missouri Valley Conference play. Creighton fell to 10-8 and is also 5-1 in the MVC. Both squads trail No. 12 Northern Iowa (16-1, 6-0 MVC) by one game in the MVC standings.
