Flames take two in Oklahoma, now on a three-game win streak

BARTLESVILLE, Okla. – College of Saint Mary volleyball took two games on Saturday afternoon in Bartlesville, Oklahoma. The Flames improve to 5-15 overall and 2-1 in the MCAC.

CSM defeated conference foe Oklahoma Wesleyan 3-1 in the first game on Saturday. Game scores were 23-25, 25-13, 25-19, and 25-20. Ashley Iwanski (SR, Omaha, Neb.) led the team with 18 kills. Iwanski also had nine digs. Courtney Iwanski (SO, Omaha, Neb.) had 13 kills and seven digs. Joy Leick (FR, Omaha, Neb.) added ten kills in the win. Baylee Collins (SO, North Platte, Neb.) led the Flames’ defensive effort with 18 kills. Brittney Lester (FR, Tecumseh, Neb.) had 24 set assists, while Kaylee Wallace (JR, Omaha, Neb.) added 20 assists.

The Flames swept the second match of the afternoon against Huston-Tillotson University. Game scores were 25-14, 25-14, and 25-5. Ashley Iwanski led the Flames with ten kills and four digs. Courtney Iwanski added six kills. Brittany Lester had 12 assists and four digs in the win. CSM served 12 service aces as a team.

College of St. Mary gets swept by Park College

PARKVILLE, Mo. – College of Saint Mary volleyball traveled to Parkville, Missouri on Tuesday evening to play former MCAC member Park University. The Pirates swept the Flames in three games by the scores of 25-19, 26-24, and 25-23.

Ashley Iwanski (SR, Omaha, Neb.) led the Flames attack with 11 kills on 40 attempts on Tuesday evening. Iwanski also added 14 digs and a service ace. Jessica Kuehner (FR, Omaha, Neb.) had eight kills and a .222 attacking percentage. Courtney Iwanski (SO, Omaha, Neb.) had 14 digs and a block assist for the game. Defensive Specialist Baylee Collins (SO, North Platte, Neb.) had a game high 25 digs. Kaylee Wallace (JR, Omaha, Neb.) had 17 assists. Brittney Lester (FR, Tecumseh, Neb.) added 13 assists.

CSM drops to 2-16 on the season. Park University improves to 9-7 overall. The Flames hit the road to Oklahoma for three games over the weekend. On Friday, CSM plays in Bethany, Oklahoma against Southwestern Christian University at 7:00pm in a MCAC match-up. Then on Saturday, the Flames play conference foe Oklahoma Wesleyan University at 1:00pm and play a non-conference match against Huston-Tillotson University at 3:00pm.

Former Volleyball Head Coach Paul Giesselman to be Inducted into College of Saint Mary Athletic Hall of Fame

Omaha, Neb. – College of Saint Mary (CSM) will induct former Volleyball Head Coach Paul Giesselman into the CSM Athletic Hall of Fame, established in 2002.

Giesselmann, who boasts a 227-80 record during his tenure with the Flames from 1994 to 2001, will be honored at the Athletic Hall of Fame Breakfast on Saturday, Sept. 17 at 9 a.m. in the Lied Fitness Center.

Giesselmann becomes the 13th inductee to CSM’s Athletic Hall of Fame. He is the fourth representative from the Flames Volleyball program and is the second coach to join the prestigious group.

College of St. Mary sweeps Grace University

OMAHA – College of Saint Mary volleyball picked up their second win of the season, sweeping Grace University in straight sets. The victory for the Flames improved their record to 2-14. Game scores were 25-21, 25-15 and 25-21.

Kaylee Wallce (Jr., Omaha, Neb.) led the Flames with ten kills. She added13 set assists in the match. Ashley Iwanski (Sr., Omaha, Neb.) had match high ten kills and a .417 attack percentage. She also had six digs.

Brittney Lester (FR, Fort Collins, Colo.) led CSM with 16 set assists. She added two ace serves. Courtney Iwanski (So., Omaha, Neb.) had a game high three service aces. Iwanski also had five kills and five digs.

York College defeats College of Saint Mary in five sets

OMAHA, Neb. – College of Saint Mary volleyball opened the Midland Collegiate Athletics Conference season Tuesday night against York College. The Panthers rallied from a 2-1 deficit at the Lied Fitness Center to win 3-2.

Jessica Kuehner (FR, Omaha, Neb.) led all players with 17 kills on 40 attacks. Ashley Iwanski (SR, Omaha, Neb.) added 16 kills. Setting duo Brittney Lester (FR, Tecumseh, Neb.) and Briana Sumner (FR, Fort Collins, Colo.) combined for 54 assists in the five set loss. CSM racked up nine service aces in the loss.

Laura Tesnohlidek led York with 15 kills. Rachelle Tialavea added 14 kills. Erin Davidson had a game high 47 assists for the Panthers. Davidson also had a game high 15 digs.

College of Saint Mary drops to 1-13 on the season and 0-1 in conference play. York evens its record at 7-7 and is 1-0 in the MCAC. The Flames return to action this weekend. On Friday, they travel to Seward, Nebraska, to take on Concordia University. Saturday afternoon, CSM returns home to host Grace University.

Park tops College of St. Mary

OMAHA, Neb. – Park University swept College of Saint Mary 3-0 in volleyball action Saturday afternoon at the Lied Fitness Center on the Campus of College of Saint Mary.

Park University served nine aces and had 46 total kills in their 25-18, 25-19, and 25-20 sweep of the Flames. Ashley Iwanski (SR, Omaha, Neb.) led CSM with 12 kills on 27 attempts. Iwanski also has 12 digs. Freshman Jessica Kuehner (Omaha, Neb.) added nine kills. Brittney Lester (FR, Tecumseh, Neb.) dished out 16 set assists in the loss. Baylee Collins (SO, North Platte, Neb.) had 13 digs to lead the team defensively.

The Flames fall to 1-12 overall this season. College of Saint Mary returns to action on Tuesday evening at 7:00pm. CSM hosts York College in the opening match of the MCAC conference schedule.

UNK sweeps College of St. Mary

KEARNEY, Neb. – College of Saint Mary volleyball was swept on Wednesday night by the University of Nebraska-Kearney 3-0. The Lopers are currently rated fifth in the NCAA Division II Coaches Poll.

The Flames attack managed only 17 kills and was forced into 25 errors against the 5th rated Lopers. Ashley Iwanski (SR, Omaha, Neb.) led CSM with seven kills on the night. Joy Leick (FR, Omaha, Neb.) and Jessica Kuehner (FR, Omaha, Neb.) each had four kills. Setter Brittney Lester (FR, Tecumseh, Neb.) had 12 assists. Lester and Baylee Collins (SO, North Platte, Neb.) each had seven digs.

Head coach Samantha Hammond was an All-American right side hitter and assistant coach for the Lopers.

College of St. Mary loses two at Bruin Labor Day Classic

BELLEVUE, Neb. – College of Saint Mary volleyball played two matches on the second day of the Bruin Labor Day Classic. The Flames were pitted against teams either in the NAIA Top 20 or receiving national votes. In the opening match, CSM fell to Hastings College 17-25, 21-25, and 14-25. Later in the afternoon, Northwestern (IA) College topped the Flames 3-0.

In the opening match, College of Saint Mary frustrated Hastings College (2-3 overall) for most of the match. The Flames were led by Jessica Kuehner (FR, Omaha, Neb.), who had 12 kills on 22 attacks. Ashley Iwanski (SR, Omaha, Neb.) added seven kills in 31 attacks. Iwanski also added ten defensive digs. Baylee Collins (SO, North Platte, Neb.) had a team high 11 digs. Briana Sumner (FR, Fort Collins, Colo.) facilitated the CSM attack by handing out 28 set assists and serving one ace. Courtney Iwanski (SO, Omaha, Neb.) added five kills and nine digs. Brittney Lester (FR, Tecumseh, Neb.) had a service ace and nine digs.

Midland sweeps College of St. Mary
