We are a week into the season and things went fairly smoothly for the top ten of Class D2. Let’s take a look at the week that’s past and the things to come for each of the top ten in the class, as well as some of the other movers and shakers.

LINCOLN - Looking at the 25-10 final score of the third and final game of the match, it may seem like the Clay Center Wildcats dominated their D-2 first round opponent in the Mullen Broncos, but the match at Lincoln Southwest on Thursday was anything but one-sided.

HASTINGS - The rosters for Thursday's Hastings Tribune 7 p.m. All-Star match at Hastings College were recently released.

OMAHA, Neb. - Abby Sorensen, a first team all-state honoree her final two years and the all-time kills leader at Clay Center High School has signed a National Letter of Intent to attend Nebraska-Omaha and play volleyball for the Mavericks this fall. Maverick head coach Rose Shires announced the signing Tuesday.

The 5-11 outside hitter from Aurora, Neb., also earned honorable mention all-state her sophomore year. She closed her high school career as Clay Center's all-time leader in kills in a career (1,234), season (549 as a senior) and match (32 as a senior). Her senior year she was named to the Omaha World-Herald and Lincoln Journal Star Class D-2 all-state first teams.The Journal Star named her honorary captain and the Hastings Tribune named her the player of the year.

She earned the same all-state honors her junior year when she led all classes in the state with a .520 hitting percentage.
