Chadron State Eagles to finish out regular season this week

CHADRON – The Chadron State College volleyball will finish out its regular season this weekend when it hosts Colorado School of Mines and the University of Colorado-Colorado Springs for a pair of Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference matches.

The Eagles (5-23 overall, 0-16 RMAC) will play Colorado Mines Friday at 6 p.m. before hosting UCCS Saturday at 7 p.m.

At the start of Friday’s match, Chadron State’s lone senior, Kaitlin Luikens, will be honored. In addition, the Eagles will recognize faculty members. Before Saturday’s match with UCCS, the parents of each Chadron State player will be announced.

Chadron State to host Colorado Christian on Friday

CHADRON – Three of Chadron State’s final five matches this season will be played at the friendly confines of Armstrong Gymnasium, beginning with Friday’s conference tilt with Colorado Christian.

First serve is scheduled for 7 p.m.

Chadron State will also Colorado Mines on Friday, Nov. 4 and the University of Colorado-Colorado Springs Saturday, Nov. 5 on the final weekend of the story.

Chadron State to host three West Division foes

CHADRON – Fresh off its thrilling five-set victory at Black Hills State Monday in Spearfish, S.D., the Chadron State College volleyball team will look to keep its momentum going by playing three Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference opponents in three straight days this week in Chadron.

The Eagles (5-16, 0-9 RMAC) begin their home stand against Adams State Thursday, followed by matches with Western State on Friday and Colorado Mesa University on Saturday. All three are scheduled to begin at 7 p.m.

After falling in four sets to nationally-ranked Nebraska Kearney on Sept. 17, the Grizzles have cruised to six consecutive victories. They currently lead the West Division with an overall record of 13-4, including a 7-2 mark in the conference.

Chadron State defeats Black Hills State in five sets

SPEARFISH, S.D. - Chadron State's Mollie Jones had 20 kills, 11 digs and seven combined blocks to lead the Eagles to a come-from-behind 12-25, 23-25, 25-19, 25-22, 17-15 victory over Black Hills State Monday.

The Eagles, now 5-16 overall, will host three Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference matches in three days, beginning Thursday with Adams State. The Eagles will also square off against Western State and Colorado Mesa University.

While Jones led the way with 21 kills, she wasn't alone in leading the CSC offense. Barbie DeCent and Mallory Irvine each added eight kills, Brenna Jungck had seven and Jessica Jester chipped in six kills and assisted on seven blocks.

Chadron State loses to Hardrockers

RAPID CITY, S.D. – The Chadron State College volleyball team won its first set for the second match in a row but dropped the next three sets to fall to South Dakota School of Mines 19-25, 25-22, 25-20, 25-7 Tuesday evening at the King Center in Rapid City, S.D.

The Eagles, now 4-14 overall, will host the University of Nebraska-Kearney Thursday evening. First serve is set for 6 p.m. at Armstrong Gymnasium.

Things were looking rosy for Chadron State as they cruised to its first set victory that avenged an earlier sweep to South Dakota School of Mines this season. In the opening set, Chadron State hit .189 and limited the Hardrockers to .054.

Hardrockers trip up Eagles in three sets

CHADRON – South Dakota Mines’ Madisen Lane had a double double of 13 kills and 11 digs and added four aces to lead the Hardrockers to a 25-20, 25-19, 25-17 non-conference victory over Chadron State Tuesday at Armstrong Gymnasium.

The match was tight throughout and the biggest lead any team had was the final score in the third set.

With the loss, Chadron State falls to 4-11 overall. They’ll play two Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference matches this weekend as the college celebrates its homecoming. The Eagles will host Regis on Friday at 7 p.m. and Metro State on Saturday at 6 p.m. Both teams are ranked in this week’s American Volleyball Coaches Association Top 25.

Chadron State hosts three matches this week

CHADRON – In addition to plenty of Homecoming festivities this week, the Chadron State College volleyball team will host three matches in five days at Armstrong Gymnasium.

The Eagles, who are 4-10 overall and 0-5 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference, begin their home stand Tuesday against South Dakota School of Mines in a non-conference match at 7 p.m.

Chadron State will also host two nationally-ranked conference foes in No. 9 Metro State and No. 22 Regis University. CSC will also play Regis Friday at 7 p.m. and Metro State Saturday at 6 p.m.

Chadron State Eagles back on the road for two RMAC matches

CHADRON – Fresh off its first home sweep in over a year, the Chadron State College volleyball team will be back on the road for two matches against Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference foes this weekend in Colorado.

The Eagles, 4-8 overall and 0-3 in the RMAC, cruised by Black Hills State Tuesday but they’ll have stiffer tests this weekend; beginning with the University of Colorado-Colorado Springs Friday at 7 p.m. CSC will also play Colorado School of Mines Saturday at 6 p.m.

The Mountain Lions (8-4, 3-0 RMAC) are in the midst of a six-match winning streak, highlighted by Wednesday’s sweep over Colorado College, the No. 14-ranked team in Division III.

Chadron State sweeps Black Hills State

Chadron State’s Lexi Hoagland had a team-high 10 kills and Mallory Irvine and Brenna Jungck combined for 16 more to help the Eagles earn a 25-21, 26-24, 25-20 victory over Black Hills State Tuesday evening at Armstrong Gymnasium.

The Eagles, who improve to 4-8 on the season, snapped their 7-match losing streak in emphatic fashion by producing their first sweep at home in over a year. In addition, it was Chadron State’s first victory over Black Hills State since 2001.

The Eagles led wire-to-wire in the first set, but they had to rally to win the second. Black Hills State (3-8) owned a 22-17 advantage after a CSC attack error, but Hoagland, who hit .421 for the match, started the comeback with a kill. The Eagles tied things up after four straight attack errors from Black Hills State and closed the door after Jessica Jester and Irvine combined on a block.

Chadron State Eagles host Yellow Jackets in home opener

CHADRON – After 11 matches on the road to open the season, the Chadron State College volleyball team will finally play its home opener Tuesday against Black Hills State in a non-conference match.

First serve is set for 7 p.m.

Black Hills State, which will join the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference in 2012, enters the match with a 3-7 record. The Yellow Jackets’ victories have come against Waldorf, Sioux Falls and Valley City State.
