COLUMBUS — The volleyball season is months away, but the Raiders’ roster is already shaping up nicely.
After a strong run at the National Junior College Athletic Association Division II Tournament, the Central Community College volleyball team signed three players to cap 2011 in style.
Recently, the squad added two more signees in Kaitlyn Ernst, of Hastings St. Cecilia, and Taylor Young, of Calallen High School in Corpus Christi, Texas.

COLUMBUS — The American Volleyball Coaches Association announced Friday that Central Community College women’s volleyball head coach Mary Young is the AVCA Two-Year College West Region Coach of the Year.
This is the third time Young has won the award, taking home the honor in 2002 and 2008.
This year’s award will be presented Dec. 15 at the AVCA annual convention in San Antonio. Each of the honorees will represent their region on the 2011 AVCA Two-Year Colleges National Coach of the Year ballot.

COLUMBUS — The National Junior College Athletic Association Division II Women’s Volleyball Tournament ended just over two weeks ago, and the Raiders are already preparing for next season.
For Central Community College, finishing sixth at nationals was a great achievement, the highest finish in the school’s history. But that doesn’t mean the Raiders are content. Since, CCC has signed three players — including two area athletes — to National Letters of Intent.

TOLEDO, Ohio — These Raiders are the best to ever don a volleyball uniform, and have the final ranking to prove it.
Saturday, the Central Community College volleyball team wrapped up the National Junior College Athletic Association Tournament with a tough 25-20, 25-17, 25-22 loss to Iowa Lakes Community College, but still emerged from the 2011 national tournament with a sixth-place finish, the best ever in school history.

TOLEDO, Ohio — The Raiders sure started well, there is no doubt about that. They just couldn’t find another way to finish.
Thursday, the No. 8-seeded Central Community College volleyball team went 1-1 at the National Junior College Athletic Association Women’s Volleyball Tournament in Toledo, Ohio, defeating Iowa Central Community College 25-22, 27-25, 21-25, 25-9 before falling to No. 1-seeded Cowley Community College (Kan.) 20-25, 20-25, 25-16, 25-21, 15-13 in the quarterfinals.

WAHPETON, N.D. — The Raiders had a goal of playing in Toledo, Ohio, and made it happen.
The National Junior College Athletic Association Division II, No. 9 Central Community College volleyball team clinched a spot in the NJCAA Division II National Tournament with a 25-16, 26-24, 25-23 sweep of North Dakota State College of Science in the District G Final Saturday in Wahpeton, N.D.
The Raiders swept both matches of the best-of-three series, winning 25-20, 25-23, 25-16 Friday.

COLUMBUS — Turns out, time flies when you are having fun. Or at the very least, winning volleyball matches.
It is hard for the National Junior College Athletic Association Division II, No. 9 Central Community College volleyball team to believe that the regular season came to a close Thursday, but capped a strong year by sweeping a home triangular at the Raider Fieldhouse.
Central defeated McCook Community College 25-11, 25-15, 25-7 before beating the Hastings Junior Varsity 23-25, 25-17, 25-19, 25-13. The Raiders end the regular season at 26-9, and prepare for next week’s Region IX contest against either Southeast Community College or North Platte Community College.

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. — The Raiders emerged a little scathed, but better for it.
Friday and Saturday at the Johnson County Community College Tournament, the National Junior College Athletic Association Division II, No. 6 Central Community College volleyball team went 3-1, with its lone loss coming Saturday against No. 14 Iowa Lakes Community College.
Central started Saturday play against Iowa Lakes, falling 25-15, 25-20, 25-19.
“You can look at this and say that we didn’t win them all, but it was a great tournament for us to be in,” Central head coach Mary Young said. “It exposes your weaknesses, and you go back to the drawing board Monday and work to make them better. These are the things we have to do if we want to contend in our conference, region and nationally, and we are doing them.”

Wednesday, the National Junior College Athletic Association Division II, No. 7 Central Community College volleyball team faced little opposition in sweeping McCook Community College 25-9, 25-11, 25-3 on Day 1 of a two-day road trip.
