GRAND ISLAND - For Grand Island Central Catholic, a little bit of knowledge wasn't exactly dangerous, but it wasn't necessarily helpful either.
The Crusaders, leading 2-0 against Central City in the Class C-1, Subdistrict 7 tournament, learned that St. Paul had radically shifted the terrain in the other half of the bracket by upsetting Minden.
Northwest wins home triangularNorthwest did what it needed to do Tuesday night as the Vikings won both ends of their triangular with Holdrege and Central City.
Northwest (24-3) thumped Holdrege 25-8, 25-10 in the opener, then encountered some spirited resistance from the Bison before the Vikings pulled away 25-13, 25-9. Holdrege (12-8) defeated Central City 25-16, 25-18 in the night's other match.
Vikings coach Diane Rouzee gave Central City credit for coming out strong against her team.

PERU – Emily Maresh will go down in the Peru State College (PSC) volleyball record books, as she became the first Bobcat volleyball player to earn Heart of America Athletic Conference (HAAC) honors. On Monday, Sept. 26, Maresh, a junior from Central City, was named as the HAAC Libero of the Week.
Maresh shared the weekly honors with Evangel University middle blocker Kaley Lyons and MidAmerica Nazarene University setter who earned HAAC hitter and setter honors for their previous week’s outstanding performances.
During the Bobcats’ week that saw PSC play five different games, Maresh tallied outstanding numbers. For the week, Maresh averaged 4.85 digs per set and turned in a .952 reception percentage as she had the team’s most serve receives. She had back-to-back 20-plus dig matches as she had 24 digs in a five-set loss to York College and then had 26 digs in a 3-1 win over Roosevelt (Ill.) University in the St. Ambrose Tournament. In addition, in the match against Roosevelt, Maresh led the team with three service aces.

ANSLEY — Kara Ostrand (18) and Siera Rohde (16) combined for 34 service points to lead undefeated Ansley to a 25-15, 25-20, 25-13 victory over Elba/North Loup-Scotia (0-3).
Rohde led the Warriors (6-0) with 11 kills and five ace blocks.

COLUMBUS — The Lakeview volleyball team looked like it was sleepwalking through the first part of its match against Central City. But once the Viqueens woke up, they took care of business.
Lakeview dug itself into a 15-8 hole in the first set, but battled back to win the set and sweep the match 25-23, 25-19, 25-20 Thursday at the Lakeview High School gym.

Creighton pushed ahead after Lauren Bloemke’s career-ending knee injury at the end of the summer. The Bluejays also brushed aside their disappointing 2-4 start once Laurel Sanford returned from her ankle injury.

YORK - Even though the York Dukes had very little trouble in winning the opening set 25-15, it was the comeback and eventual win in the second set that silenced the Central City Bison.
York had all the momentum, but the second set opened with a 7-1 Central City run that seemed to change the direction of the match, at least for a short time.
