Newman Grove wins two matches at Cedar Rapids triangularCEDAR RAPIDS — Newman Grove won two matches at the Cedar Rapids Triangular as they downed Elgin 25-22, 25-21 and host Cedar Rapids 18-25, 25-17, 25-16.
Cedar Rapids topped Elgin 22-25, 25-22, 25-23.
The Tigers were led in their victory by Tara Doughty with eight kills and 18 digs. Sarah Buettner added 15 digs and Delilah Choat 14. Keri Beierman had seven kills for the Tigers.
Cedar Rapids defeats Fullerton, North Loup-Scotia to start 2-0CEDAR RAPIDS — Cedar Rapids swept North Loup-Scotia and Fullerton in its home triangular.
The Tigers opened with a 26-24, 25-21 win over North Loup-Scotia. Kelsey Martinsen led Cedar Rapids with six kills, Katie Rutten added 12 set assists and Tara Doughty had 10 digs. The Wildcats got three kills and eight set assists from Sarah Hansen.
Cedar Rapids then beat Fullerton 28-26, 25-16 behind Doughty’s 10 kills and 16 digs. Rutten added 12 set assists and eight digs. Ali Peregrine led Fullerton with 12 set assists and seven digs.

Imagine being in Todd Beck’s situation as the coach of Cedar Valley.
He’s getting to coach a team that has four of its top attackers back from Greeley-Wolbach, who was the D-2 state champion that went 33-1. On top of that, he also gets Cedar Rapids players, who returns two starters from a 14-14 season.
