Wardian named MCAC hitter of weekPOINT LOOKOUT, Mo. - Senior middle blocker Maureen Wardian (Omaha, Neb.) of Bellevue University has been named MCAC Women's Volleyball Hitter of the Week for the week ending Oct. 23.
It was Wardian's second MCAC honor this season. She was also named MCAC Hitter of the Week on Sept. 19.
Wardian, a native of Omaha, Neb., averaged 3.58 kills and 0.95 blocks per game last week in helping the 21st-ranked Bruins to a 4-1 record. Wardian was named the Most Outstanding Player at the Madonna University Crusader Classic last weekend in Michigan. In a 3-2 win over Malone University at the Crusader Classic, she had 12 kills and six total blocks.
Bellevue University defeats Peru StatePERU – In a game featuring former teammates and another area player, the Bellevue University (BU) Bruins defeated the Peru State College (PSC) Bobcats at the Johnson-Brock High School gymnasium in Johnson, Neb. In the first set, the teams traded points and it was tied at 6-6 before Bellevue jumped to an 11-6 lead before PSC scored again. Peru State would get as close as 12-9 in the set, but that was as close as the ‘Cats would get. Bellevue would eventually go up by nine points, before the Bobcats would score some to make it closer.
Bellevue scored the first two points of the game before PSC got on the board and stretched it to a nine-point lead before the Bobcats would whittle away at the deficit. Peru State got back as close as three points on two different occasions late in the game before BU eventually won the game.
Bellevue's Broady named MCACPOINT LOOKOUT, Mo. -- For the sixth-consecutive week, Bellevue University junior setter Jordan Broady (Johnson, Neb.) has been named Midlands Collegiate Athletic Conference's Setter of the Week, as announced by the league office on Monday, Oct. 10.
Broady averaged 11.89 assists, 1.89 digs and 0.77 blocks per game last week in helping the 14th-ranked Bruins to a 2-1 record.
For the season, she leads the conference with 926 assists. Broady also has a team-high nine double-doubles.
Bellevue University sweeps College of Saint MaryBELLEVUE, Neb. - The 14th-ranked Bellevue University volleyball team won its 13th-straight match, sweeping College of Saint Mary 3-0 (25-17, 25-12, 25-21) in Midlands Collegiate Athletic Conference action Tuesday night at the Gordon Lozier Athletic Center.
Bellevue is now 17-4 overall and 6-0 in league play while CSM fell to 6-16 and 2-2 in the MCAC. The win also marked the Bruins' 12th-straight win over the Flames and fifth consecutive win in straight sets.
Maureen Wardian (Omaha, Neb.) (12) and Sunny Bell (Omaha, Neb.) (11) both recorded double-digit kills while Jordan Broady (Johnson, Neb.) collected 42 assists and directed the Bruin offense to a .279 hitting percentage. Meghan Evans (Omaha, Neb.) anchored BU's defense that held CSM to .100 hitting and registered a match-high 20 digs.
Bellevue University sweeps York CollegeYORK, Neb. - Sophomores Caitlyn Rueth (Omaha, Neb.) and Sydney DeBoer (Seward, Neb.) posted career highs in kills and Andrea Johnson (Omaha, Neb.) had a career night defensively as the 15th-ranked Bellevue University volleyball team swept York College 3-0 (25-16, 25-13, 25-23) Tuesday night in MCAC action at the Freeman Center.
The Bruins improved to 16-4 on the season and 5-0 in the MCAC and have now won 12-straight matches. Bellevue has not dropped a set in conference action. York fell to 11-8 overall and 3-1 in league play.
Rueth led the Bruins with 12 kills and four digs. DeBoer added 10 kills on .444 hitting while adding three blocks.
Bellevue No. 15, Doane, Midland receive votes in latest NAIA pollThe Midland University volleyball team received votes in the latest NAIA Volleyball Coaches' Poll. The Warriors, now 12-5 on the season, are currently atop the Great Plains Athletic Conference standings.
Midland University is back in action on Wednesday night in Lincoln, Neb. against Nebraska Wesleyan.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Texas at Brownsville began its march through the Red River Athletic Conference with a pair of league wins over the past week and cemented itself as a unanimous No. 1 in the Tachikara-NAIA Volleyball Coaches' Top 25 Poll, the national office announced Tuesday. The Scorpions, who defeated Wiley (Texas) and Texas College to open up conference play, garnered all 23 first-place votes and 653 points.
Bruins win two five-setters, run streak to nine OLATHE, Kan. - The 16th-ranked Bellevue University volleyball team survived a pair of five-set matches in the final day of the MidAmerica Nazarene Invitational Saturday afternoon at the Bell Family Arena. The Bruins defeated Evangel 3-2 (25-17, 25-16, 26-28, 16-25, 15-8) in the opener and finished the tournament with a 3-2 (19-25, 25-19, 27-25, 22-25, 15-6) victory over No. 24-ranked Grand View University.
The Bruins have now won nine-straight matches, improving to 13-4 on the season.
Bellevue returns to action next when they host the Bruin/Premier Volleyball Classic on Sept. 23-24 at the Gordon Lozier Athletic Center.
Balanced attack keys BU's third-straight sweep BELLEVUE, Neb. -- Eleven different Bruins recorded kills as the Bellevue University volleyball team won its third consecutive match in straight sets, defeating Southwestern Christian University 3-0 (25-8, 25-13, 25-10) Friday night in Midlands Collegiate Athletic Conference action at the Gordon Lozier Athletic Center.
With the win, BU improved to 7-4 overall and 2-0 in league play while SCU fell to 1-2 and 0-2 in the MCAC.
Caitlyn Rueth (Omaha, Neb.) led BU with six kills, three digs, and two service aces. Sydney DeBoer (Seward, Neb.), Courtney Hendricks (Omaha, Neb.), and Niki Gregory (Omaha, Neb.) all collected five kills apiece for the Bruin offense.
Gregory leads Bellevue in MCAC opening winBELLEVUE - Freshman Niki Gregory (Omaha, Neb.) pounded a career-high 12 kills on .611 hitting to lead the Bellevue University volleyball team to a 3-0 (25-8, 25-14, 25-11) sweep over Oklahoma Wesleyan University in the Bruins' conference opener Thursday night at the Gordon Lozier Athletic Center.
With the win, the Bruins improved to 6-4 overall and 1-0 in the MCAC. Oklahoma Wesleyan fell to 6-4 on the season and 0-1 in league play.
Alannah VanGorder (Canyon City, Colo.) and Caitlyn Rueth (Omaha, Neb.) also posted career highs with six kills apiece. Rueth added a match-high eight digs in the win.
Bellevue sweeps Northwestern, 3-0 ORANGE CITY, Iowa - Senior Kali Schnacker (Humboldt, Neb.) pounded 12 kills and hit .421 to lead 16th-ranked Bellevue University to a 3-0 (25-22, 26-24, 25-16) victory over Northwestern (Iowa) College Wednesday night in non-conference action at the Bultman Center.
With the sweep, the Bruins improved to 5-4 on the season. The Raiders dropped to 3-6 overall.
Joining Schnacker in double figures were sophomore outside hitter Annie Benson (Papillion, Neb.) with 11 kills and freshman Sunny Bell (Omaha, Neb.) with 10.
