BATTLE CREEK - Shelby Daum loves the sport of volleyball.
The senior from Battle Creek plays volleyball year-round, whether it’s at the high school or club level.
In November, Daum — a 6-foot-1 middle blocker and outside hitter — signed a letter of intent to play Division I volleyball at Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa.

Wisner-Pilger tops Battle CreekBATTLE CREEK -- Things went down to the wire.
Class C No. 3 Wisner-Pilger recorded a wild 23-25, 25-19, 28-26 win over top-ranked Battle Creek here Thursday night at the Battle Creek triangular.
With the third set tied at 26, senior Abby Jo Schantz connected on back-to-back kills to seal the Wisner-Pilger win.

NORFOLK – The two most valuable players at the 12th annual Northeast Nebraska All-Star Classic traveled different paths - literally and figuratively - to earn the accolades Friday night (June 19).
Ewing's Hayley Thramer arrived at Northeast Community College just hours prior to the match that featured the top players from Northeast and North Central Nebraska.
Wayne State signs four Nebraska girls in early signing periodWAYNE - Wayne State College head volleyball coach Scott Kneifl announced today that four Nebraska high school standouts have signed national letters of intent or scholarship offers during the NCAA early signing period to attend Wayne State College and play for the Wildcats in the 2010 season. They are Cori Hobbs of Battle Creek, Jordan Lechner of Syracuse, McKenna Reagan of Elkhorn and Tatum Wroblewski of St. Paul.
“We are very pleased with this year’s recruiting class,” remarked Coach Kneifl. “We feel like we have recruited four very talented student-athletes to our program that will not only help us on the volleyball floor but will also fit into our philosophy of being great teammates. All four of these players will be able to compete for positions next fall and we are very excited they chose Wayne State College over other Division I and Division II programs.”
Hobbs is a 6-0 outside hitter who was a four-year starter at Battle Creek High School. She helped the Bravettes to a 25-4 record this season and a #10 ranking in Class C-1 Omaha World Herald rankings. As a junior last season, Hobbs helped the Bravettes reach the Class C-1 State Tournament with a 28-4 record, earning Class C-1 All-State honors and Third Team Super State recognition from the Lincoln Journal Star while being named captain of the Class C Norfolk Daily News Elite Eight squad. She also set a new Class C-1 state record last season with 614 kills for the Bravettes.
Class C1 - Notes for week of Sept. 20-26Ratings Comments: There weren't many changes this week, but Kearney Catholic earned a promotion for wins against St. Paul and Wood River, while the Wildcats fell after losses to the Stars and Grand Island central Catholic.
