KEENE — As she was getting dressed for prom last year, Sara Fecht noticed that the left side of her neck looked unusually swollen.

This wasn’t something new. Seven months earlier during her junior year physical, Sara’s doctor had pointed out some swelling in that area and speculated that Sara might be having thyroid issues.

Sara didn’t get the swelling examined at that time, but when prom came around, it was too big to ignore.

PLEASANTON - Axtell's streak of reaching its seventh straight Fort Kearny Conference Tournament final was in jeopardy.

Down a set to Loomis, the Class D2 No. 7-rated Wildcats needed a lift and found one in Hailey Kring.

Papillion-LaVista swept Class B's new top team Lincoln Pius X in in the finals of the Lincoln Northeast Tournament, while former Class B No. 1 Gretna was defeated for the first time this season. Earlier last week, Kearney Catholic was defeated by Grand Island Central Catholic, switching up the rankings in C1. D1 BDS lost to Class C2 Blue Hill, but remains atop in D1 as does Bertrand in D2 and Lutheran High Northeast in C2 in this week’s Oct. 3 NebVolleyball/Jones Insurance Agency, Inc. Rankings for each classification.

AXTELL - It was definitely a team effort but when the chips were down in the third set, the Kring sisters took over to help overcome a first set deficit and down Fort Kearney Conference foe Loomis 17-25, 25-18, 25-19 in the third match of the Axtell Triangular Thursday.

HASTINGS — Grand Island Northwest middle Karny Kuehl helped lead the North All-Stars to a victory over the South All-Stars 25-18, 25-21, 24-26, 25-18 Thursday night in the third annual Hastings Tribune Volleyball Classic at Hastings College’s Lynn Farrell Arena.
The Nebraska Wesleyan-bound Kuehl tallied a match-high 13 kills while also adding three ace blocks and an assist to help lead her team of all-stars to the win.

Grand Island Senior High’s Allison Arnold posted 11 kills and four blocks as the two middles helped control the net for the North
All-Stars.

Kearney Catholic’s Kayla James finished with 26 assists while Heartland setter Miranda Driewer posted 19 assists.
