Papillion-LaVista South was pushed to the brink of its first loss against St. James Academy in Lenexa, Kan. but survived. Columbus Scotus in C1 also was pushed but remained unbeaten. Lutheran High Northeast in C2 wasn't so lucky as Guardina Angels took down C2's last unbeaten. Paxton and Hitchcock County still are perfect in D1 but could face each other at the conference tournament. Check out all the new NebVolleyball/Jones Insurance Agency, Inc. Giesselmann enthused about potential of first Midland University recruiting class

FREMONT - Paul Giesselmann's best recruiters for the Midland University volleyball team might be the players currently on the Lady Warriors' roster.

Giesselmann recently announced the addition of eight Nebraska prep players to the MU roster for the fall of 2011. The former Creighton University assistant led Midland to a 13-19 record in his inaugural season last fall with a roster of underclassmen.

PREVIEW C1 - Auburn

Auburn (16-11) came on strong at the end of last season.

The Bulldogs won 11 of their final 14 matches with the only losses being to Lincoln Christian (17-15), Class C2 state champion David City Aquinas in three sets of a best of three format, and Class C1 state qualifier Syracuse in the subdistrict semifinals.

A couple highlights of the season were a 2-0 victory over Class C2 runner-up Sandy Creek and a five-set victory over Lincoln Lutheran (20-15).

Bergan beats Auburn to win Conestoga Tournament

The Fremont Bergan volleyball team won the championship game of the Conestoga Tournament Saturday.

Bergan defeated Fort Calhoun 25-8, 25-17 in the opener and then defeated Lincoln Christian 25-21, 25-22 to reach the finals.
