When the NCAA Div. I Volleyball Tournament gets underway on Thursday and Friday across the country, the state of Nebraska will be well represented on the rosters of the teams that made it.

The home-state University of Nebraska-Lincoln volleyball team boasts eight Nebraska natives on its roster, but there are also at least 14 other native Nebraskans on other team's rosters that made the tournament.

Of these 22 Division I players, they hail for 20 different Nebraska high schools.

Fremont Bergan captured the championship of the Cedar Bluffs Volleyball Invitational on Saturday.
The Lady Knights (6-7) defeated previously unbeaten Mead 25-16, 18-25, 25-22 in the championship game.

Mary Alderson had a team-high 10 kills for Bergan to go along with seven assists and one block. Hailey Kirby recorded 15 points, 10 assists and four ace serves. Carly Gross had 13 points, two aces and one block. Michaela Eurek finished with 13 points on five kills and one ace. Amber Wiese and McKenna Shallberg had five and four kills, respectively, while each contributing a block.

WISNER - The Fremont Bergan volleyball team finished third in the Silver Division of the Northeast Nebraska Classic Saturday.

The Knights lost to North Bend Central 25-18, 25-15 and Wakefield 25-23, 25-17 before defeating Pender 25-19, 25-21.

FREMONT - Fremont Bergan volleyball coach Scott Painter challenged his team and the Lady Knights responded Tuesday night.

Bergan defeated Arlington 25-19, 25-13, 25-20 and is now 3-3 on the season.

WISNER - The Fremont Bergan volleyball team opened the season with a split of its first two games in the Wisner-Pilger Invitational Thursday night.

Guardian Angels Central Catholic won the opener 23-25, 25-20, 25-6 and the Knights rebounded with a 25-14, 25-14 win over Oakland-Craig.

FREMONT - Evan Stober was at his home one fall afternoon in 2006 when his father, John, told him to switch the television on to Nebraska's volleyball match against Missouri.

The younger Stober had watched Fremont Bergan and other prep teams play before, but this was different. While watching the Huskers play that day, something clicked for the teenager.

Wahoo Neumann volleyball opponents were well aware of Alyssa Stanek's power as a hitter, but her versatility helped the Cavaliers succeed.

"Alyssa is a great athlete that just wants her team to have success even if all eyes are on her," Neumann coach Shelly Hagemann said. "She would find other ways of putting the ball away in the front row like tipping to the open spot or a roll shot to the corners to keep defenses off-balance. Every team was keying on the hard hit so she just changed her tempo and made the defense move."
