About Us
Darren Ivy is co-publisher of Ivy-Rose Publishing, Inc., which publishes the Blue Hill Leader, Clay County News and Doniphan Herald weekly newspapers and Nebvolleyball.com magazine and web site.
Ivy is a Columbus native, graduating from Columbus High School in 1996. Following high school, Ivy continued his academic and athletic career at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, where he student journalism and ran on the Cornhusker cross country and track and field teams.
He worked for the Daily Nebraskan newspaper, covering many beats, including the University of Nebraska volleyball program. He earned the Freedom Forum award for being one of the top college sportswriters in the country. During college, Ivy also wrote for the Omaha World-Herald, Grand Island Independent, Columbus Telegram and Associated Press.
Upon graduation from college, Ivy took a job as general assignment sports writer with the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette in Little Rock, Ark. While in Arkansas, Ivy was instrumental in expanding the high school volleyball coverage in the statewide newspaper and doing the rankings for all the classifications. He earned several regional and national awards for his investigative reporting and also wrote a book entitled “Untold Stories, Black Sports Heroes before integration.”
Ivy and his wife, Cassie, moved back to Nebraska in 2004 and purchased the Clay County News weekly newspaper in March 2005. The Ivys, who have two children, Josie (5) and Brooklyn (3), purchased the Doniphan Herald in June 2006 and the Blue Hill Leader in June 2007.

Ivy is a Geneva native, graduating from Geneva High School in 1998. Following high school, Ivy continued her interest in journalism at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, where she earned a news-editorial degree.
She worked for the Daily Nebraskan student newspaper and also wrote for the Columbus Telegram and Nebraska Signal.
Upon graduation from college, Ivy took a job as an copy editor and later an advertorial writer with the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette in Little Rock, Ark.
Ivy and her husband, Darren, moved back to Nebraska in 2004 and purchased the Clay County News weekly newspaper in March 2005. The Ivys, who have two children, Josie (5) and Brooklyn (3), purchased the Doniphan Herald in June 2006 and the Blue Hill Leader in June 2007.
